I would like to get a few groceries for my stay. I have time to spare so thought i might go to a store instead of delivery. Is there even any groceries stores close by? If so, how long would it take to get there, and roughly how much would it cost me each way?

Note: You'll need to request a car to the store, then a separate one back once you're done shopping. Don't ask your driver to wait for you.

The other thing I would consider is one of the grocery delivery services. I've seen numerous positive reviews of both WeGoShop and Garden Grocer, and I'm sure there are other services I haven't heard of. The cost of delivery would almost certainly be less than the cost of two Uber trips.

And FCDub is correct above. Drivers will not sit and wait for you to do your grocery shopping. That won't be a problem; there will be drivers within a few minutes no matter where you are, so you won't have any significant delay in getting a ride back to your resort.

I have a towncar pick me up at the airport and take me to a grocery store before going to the hotel. When I stay at Boardwalk Resort, the towncar driver takes me to the Publix at Lake Cay Commons, 9930 Universal Blvd., Orlando 32819. There's a liquor store in the same shopping plaza.

(On one trip, the driver kept asking me if I wanted to go to the liquor store rather than the grocery store. Maybe I looked like I needed a drink.)

I used to use Garden Grocer, many here have used Dizzy Dolphin. Both worked fine. Yes, there is a delivery charge, but if you're going to pay for a car, it makes more sense to order online, then have it delivered right to the resort. I go to the store now that I have a rental car, and go to WDW many times a year. Spending an hour or so getting groceries isn't a big deal for me anymore.

The cost of uber is sometimes less. But the real savings is the cost of groceries. An item from these delivery services is mostly 3 times as much as buying at the local grocery stores. For instance a carton of coke runs 8.99 to 10.99!!

A couple of things:

First of all, +$2 is not 3x as much. 3x would be $27.

But yes, there will be some additional cost using one of the services. I believe Garden Grocer has a set online "menu" you select from, and those items are marked up from regular grocery store prices. I have read that WeGoShop will shop anywhere you want, will bring you the receipt showing the store prices, and adds their pre-agreed service fee to that. People who have actually used the services do not complain about the price.

Whether any of those services work out more expensive or less expensive than taking an Uber both ways, you would have to calculate for yourself.

Also, some of the grocery stores are now offering pre-ordering where your groceries are all packaged and waiting for you when you arrive. So, no shopping time and no wait. Drive up in the Uber, pick up the groceries, and drive back to your resort. Even so, you may find that more expensive than using a delivery service. You just have to price check all options...and also consider how you want to spend your vacation time.

You did not understand my post. I said at the delivery sites the cost of a carton of coke is EITHER $8.99 or $10.99. At local stores the cost of coke is about $3.00. So yes 3 x as much. And that was only one item. Depending on what you buy it could be a very big difference. I have made 38 trips to WDW resorts. Tried a lot of ways to do this. But hey do what you want. Not my money.

I just checked Garden Grocer Orlando and a 12 pack of Coke is $8.29 vs. $5.79 at Costco here in Miami. I did the math, and that is 30.2% more...not triple the price.

A prudent shopper will just price everything out, see what the numbers are, and go from there.

one last thing. You keep limiting this to one carton of coke. Lets say its 2.50 more. But you are really ordering many items for a 10 day trip (our last trip). This could add up to quite a bit more. But again To each their own. Happy ordering.

If you're an Amazon Prime member, you can use Prime Now. It gives you a delivery within 2 hours and their prices are reasonable. For example their 12 pack of Coke is $5.49. If you spend over $35.00, delivery is free ($7.99 for 1 hr delivery) and right now there's a coupon of $10 off your first delivery (code: 10primenow).

Why did you bump up a post from last September?
