So how much higher than the price estimate can you be forced to pay if you're in a surge period? Twice? 3x?

I want to take Uber for 3 of us from Peacock Suites to GCH on a Friday night at 8pm. I have a car, but I want to partake of the wine pairing for the chef's counter at Napa Rose, and I don't want to have to worry about driving back. I've been assuming that the price would be trivial (Uber says $5-$7). But I'm guessing it could go a lot higher?

Thanks, Bob

I talked to a driver in downtown LA who picked up a fare on a 8X surge price in NYE after midnight...so there is no cap.

But the app will tell you if there is a surge...and the amount...and give you the option to be notified if the surge drops so it is not like you get in the car and don't know what you are paying. Surge prices do happen but not a lot around the DL resort.

Another trick if that is there is a surge on say UberX, there may not be on UberXL and going up in service may be cheaper. Most forget to check that.

For a short trip around the DLR, you can always take a taxi, their rates are fixed and not much more than Uber/Lyft.

We just got back. Was quoted $80 from Uber from LAX to Howard Johnson. Was shocked to find a car rental for $54 for the weekend. Was cheaper for us to go that route, and just park it all weekend.

Yeah...a lot of people overlook this option. It can often be cheaper or comparable to just rent a car than hired transportation even with hotel parking fees factored...but MUCH less hassle in my opinion, but that may be the control freak in me. From SNA taxi or Uber is no brainer, but from LAX I will always check rental car prices first.

I paid $20 one way for an Uber from SNA to GCH, and the same back to the airport. That's been pretty consistent in the last 2-3 years with multiple trips. More expensive than the shuttles, but I don't mind paying the extra for my own car on my own timing. LAX - that's a different story, I'd definitely rent a car!

I have used Uber and Lyft during our stay at DLR.
The estimated ride cost by the apps are pretty accurate.
So go by that.

Thanks for the Uber estimator. I've never done Uber but DH has and I was thinking about having him do it again since he's arriving after us but it would be cheaper for him to go on a shuttle I think. Great planning/budget tool!

My husband drives for UBER and Lyft in the SF Bay Area. Surge pricing can affect everything but can also go away in as quick as a few minutes so while the fare estimates are decent it varies entirely on driver to request ratios.

It's still a good option for most times but some shuttle services like prime time shuttle are offering an uber-like option now . I reserved a direct service vehicle ( max of 2 passengers and 2 bags) for only $21 after a $15.00 off promo coupon, so assessing all options can be vital still.

Ooh, where did you get the promo coupon from?

It was a promo on the website, a daily one that changes daily so honestly just got lucky. Just google prime time shuttle that's what I did lol
