UA Changing times and Seats

I know UA does this all the time but can't someone write a script to alert passengers to ticket changes.

Went on to check what time our April flight left and there in red type was the info that flight time had changed. I know from past experience that UA does not notify you when they do this but had forgot.

Went on to check seats and realized that they had moved all our seats. Looks like the size of the planes have changed. So out bound flight we were half a planes length away from our kids (which could be a good thing with 13 year old :rotfl:) but decided we should stay together. Flight back they had us all in exit row seats. Now this would cause a bit of confusion on flight back since neither of them are old enough to sit in those seats.

Easy fix, right, go on and move seats. Not so easy since they want to now charge me almost $400 for Economy plus seats that I have already payed for with miles.
Was able to fix it with a call to UA.

Just a reminder check UA flights monthly. I know this will happen again before we leave in April

This happens on all airlines. Just this past week I have lost my previously assigned seats (assigned in Feb 2014!) on both Air China and Asiana Airlines. You need to check them occasionally, especially if you reserve months in advance.

We always get emails from AA and Jet Blue. Is there an option on the website to enable this? I hate when they change stuff though. I would just show up and make the flight attendants figure out how to deal with your kids:rolleyes1

Why would you do that when a phone call can resolve everything in advance? Neither the Flight Crew nor the other passengers reassigned the seats?

It sounds like she's going to have to pay extra, $400 I think, to get them together. If you wait until you are on the plane, you don't get charged extra. I don't want to stick it to the flight crew; I agree that it's not their fault. However, it appears that the airline doesn't care what the customer thinks; maybe they care about the crew, but probably not. In any case, she shouldn't have to pay more for the airline's changes.

EDIT: Just saw the part about the fix, which is good but not always possible with some airlines.

Flight attendants aren't going to do anything for a 13 year old, he can sit by himself.

Read OP's post carefully; the seat charge is for E+ seats on United, not for regular seat assignment, which is free.

If you don't pay for E+ seating (or aren't given it for free depending on your status), you aren't usually getting it for free on the plane. Exceptions, when regular E is oversold.

To another poster, UA does not notify you of equipment swaps (where your seats may be lost or reassigned); you need to keep an eye on this yourself.

The proper thing to do is call the airlines. Be polite and firm that THEY were the ones who created the problem so THEY need to fix it at no charge. Yes, if you change seats on your own online they'll charge you.

The post was for people to check and if needed to resolve any problems before they get to the flight. UA does not notify you about changes. The problem with the extra $$ was we had already paid for the UE+ for the kids and DH is free plus traveling campaign. When I tried resigning our seat online it did not recognize that we had already paid. They were very helpful when we called and resigned all of our seats.
