U-Pick?!

We are heading off to the sunshine state in June and fancied doing a bit of fruit picking - the kiddies LOVE strawberrys so this would be our preference but I am sure they would be keen on oranges also.

Can anyone recommend a PYO in the area?

In hot climates, oranges and strawberries are winter fruit, so i assume that's also true in Florida.

My guess is orange and strawberry picking are some time in january/february/march.

i found a site that has u-pick of grapefruits and valencia oranges in June in central florida:

and here is a site on florida strawberries..

according to this site, commercial strawberry season in Florida is December to April, but the fields are usually only open for u-pick at the end of the season in April.

we went here early last October, great morning out
you can pick fruit,feed the chickens, go on the monster truck afterwards and throw oranges for the cows eat!

I recognise the showcase of citrus, have passed it many times and never dawned on me that it was a PYO!! My kids will love the big truck so I think we shall be heading there.

prime strawberry season starts february/march

the florida strawberry festival was held this year from march 1st to 11th in Plant City

in 2013 it will be held feb.28th to march 10th

huge festival (500.000+ attendance)
