Typhoon Lagoon on a *possibly* rainy day

Our scheduled water park day is the last full day of our trip, and it looks like there is a 44% chance of rain that day according to easy WDW. We don't have park hoppers or tickets for that day, as we only got a 6 day ticket to save money. Now I'm a little concerned and trying not to freak out  Do they close the water parks if it's raining or should we just suck it up and go have fun? does it rain all day or just part of the day? I'm from the northwest and live in Kansas, so I am used to all day rain and torrential downpours...but what is rain like in florida? :)

Lightning or unusual weather will close a water park, but not rain alone. It usually rains for a few hours at most, but there are rare exceptions.

Josh's 44% is based on historical averages and not current weather conditions. Ignore it.

With 2 months and 27 days left to go, I wouldn't worry about the *forecasted* weather. :goodvibes

eta: looks like we will be there the same time!

Well hopefully we can still get to use our tickets! I wonder...can we split up our days? so we are there for 7 days and have a 6 day park hopper as we got free water park tickets through our travel agent. If the kids wanted to go to the waterparks on another day, we could just reschedule our park day and FP+ options, right? I wasn't sure with park hopper tickets...ours expire, but I am pretty sure we have 14 days to use them. I should know this, but I'm having a blonde moment

Correct, you do not need to use the tickets for the 6 consecutive days. I wouldn't worry about rain. We went to TL and it rained in the morning, was nice in the afternoon, and then had a steady rain from around 2:30 until close. We really enjoyed it. It wasn't too hot, the lines were short and everyone else left after 2:30.

As far as I know if it isn't lightning they don't stop the rides. It seems like most Florida rains are quick storms or short rain showers but our water park day was an all day rain.

We were there in June with a pretty good chance of rain predicted. We risked it and went anyway. It started raining about an hour or so into our park time. It was a steady light drizzle that ended up lasting pretty much all day long. We were able to ride everything we wanted to ride at least once and some rides several times in a row. The crowds were practically nonexistent. But because of the rain and lack of sun, within about 2 hours in the rain we were freezing walking around wet in the rain and ended up leaving.

At the time I might have said too wet and too cold to do a WP in the rain again (I'm kind of a wimp and get cold quickly). Looking back now based on the number of rides we got done, I would probably do it again. Our overall ride count was higher in the 3 hours we were there than if we had stayed all day on a sunny summer day and we didn't have to worry as much about sunscreen or hot concrete.

On that day with an all day steady rain, I wouldn't have wanted to be at any other park than a water park for sure.

That doesn't sound so bad, thanks :)

Great! we plan to get there first thing in the morning and go till we're tired. Then we have a dinner reservation at Raglan's that night in DTD :)

LOL! Believe me I totally understand where you are coming from!

Seems silly to me to even worry about it, but...I still do. I know we won't be back for a few years at least, if not 4-5, so I want to make this trip worth the money we are spending. It's NOT cheap taking a family of 6, with dining, airfare, hotel and park tickets we are spending almost 8K :crazy2: So the weather totally freaks me out and I am praying it doesn't rain when we head to TL...a little rain is ok, but a whole day might be a problem :)

Rain alone will not close a waterpark,if there's lightning then they will make everyone leave the attractions. At that point some people will leave while others hang out in the stores or under cover hoping for the weather to improve so they can head back to the attractions,if it doesn't improve then they eventually do close the park.Rainy season starts in June and since you're going in late May you could get some rain but it's definitely way too early to worry about this.Even if you're going in the middle of rainy season there could be days that get no rain at all and even if you do get rain and thunderstorms they don't usually start until 1-3pm so if you get to the park at opening you could still get several good hours at the park.Even if you had to leave due to the weather you could then head across the street to DTD to fill up the rest of the day.
