Typhoon Lagoon crowds low!

We're currently on spring break and have annual passes that are blacked out, but the sports add-on is still valid. We spent a night at ASMu and two days at Typhoon Lagoon. I expected it to be super crowded and we were prepared to just enjoy it regardless, but it was great! It wasn't crowded at all! I have no idea how it can be completely sold out at the parks but so uncrowded at the water park. If you're at the parks and it gets overwhelmingly crowded, go to Typhoon Lagoon!

I have been to the water parks 7 times since the end of October and it's been empty 6 out of the 7 times and the 1 trip it wasn't empty, crowds were still low (15 minute waits for slides). I'm liking the water parks more than the theme parks now because it is so much fun to go and not deal with crowds and lines.

Unless the weather is too cold (I don't know what the metric for "too cold" is), which it seldom is, one of the water parks will be open all year round. If it's so cold that Disney doesn't open the water park, you probably wouldn't enjoy it much anyway, haha!

nice to know. I was reading that as long as the weather is 60 or higher, they open the resort pools, so I assume the same?

I suppose that many people returning to the theme parks for the first time in years are fully focused on the theme parks and not really thinking about the water parks.

With ticket prices so much higher now and people evaluating whether to add hundreds more for their families to get G+ and ILL$, adding still more for water park access is a tradeoff many are willing to make. Especially since so many hotels & resorts in the area have lovely pools anyway.

This may be a better year for use of the water parks, which get sooo crowded in midsummer when locals are out of school.

Yeah every year I feel like I want to start tilting my park time more towards the water parks just for that reason. A good day at the waterpark can be just as fun as the parks and definitely more relaxing.

Now that it's May, how are the crowds on the weekends? We're going down next Friday and we plan on spending Saturday at TL. I've rented an umbrella to guarantee that we'll have one and it was much cheaper than a beachcomber shack.

Usually, Disney has both water parks running in the summer. With only one going this year, and crowds otherwise returning to (or even exceeding) normal pre-pandemic levels, I suspect that Typhoon Lagoon will be quite crowded this summer. That suspicion is enhanced by anecdotal reports of cabana and umbrella reservations being extremely difficult to snag.

We went on 5/14 (Sat) and it was busy, but we still did a lot. I rented an umbrella and am very glad I did as it was sunny the whole time we were there. Next time though, I'm going to do one of the beach shacks just so we have more room and can get there without walking through sand.
