Ok Krista, you lost me at the 84 degrees! :cold: ;)

Seriously, those are awesome pictures. Looks like you had a great day. Thanks for sharing. :)

Is that last picture Sam Eagle???

I thought so. Nice photos Krista. Thanks for sharing. Now if you could only share some of that 84 degree weather with us....

They mentioned on the weather last night that the sun has not shone in Cleveland for 16 days. :sunny:

The Ft. Worth zoo is so much nicer than the Dallas Zoo. My DH should have taken the kids there for the last day of winter break...they stayed inside and did laundry instead!

It was a big concrete pit with a "shipwreck" in the center. The monkeys would periodically escape when they got to swinging on the ropes & go right over the surrounding fence. They weren't big monkeys - but I'm sure that was pretty exciting for the handlers when that happened!

I do remember that! I was going to say I thought it looked like a ship, but I didn't want to sound like I was making stuff up . But I never saw a monkey escape. If the monkeys were harmless, that could be entertaining :). They didn't seem to have a lot of monkeys at the Fort Worth Zoo. I did see some of the ones that are colored like skunks. They had lots of gorillas, but I couldn't get any good pictures through the plexiglas.

I did get to go today to the FW Zoo.. Weather wasnt as nice as 84, but I believe it got up to around 70-- I got to see a baby kangaroo in its mothers pouch.. it would stick its head out while the mother was leaning over to eat grass and lean out and eat grass.. It actually came out for a few minutes and then went back into the pouch.. very cute!! I'll post a few in a bit when my boyfriend comes back with the camera which is in the car..

Hello Kris:

Your daddy really likes your photos....why don't you ever take me to the Ft. Worth zoo?

Do you remember?

Here are my favorite pictures from when I was at the Fort Worth zoon in October (it was HOT!!! like 90's) The zoo was amazing. Only downfall was that the lions weren't out because they had brand new cubs.

Glad you posted, Tiggerlover91. Even though I only know you from the DIS, I thought of you today while we were at the zoo, and about how excited you were when you got that job. For some reason I had it in my head that you didn't work there anymore.

The jaguars, fox, cougar, and eagle were all in a really nice newer area of the zoo dedicated to animals of Texas. The 2 jaguars (a species I didn't know lived in Texas :earseek: ) were pacing bigtime in their decent-sized cage area. I've never seen big caged cats moving like that. Usually the big cats in zoos (tigers, lions, cheetahs) are just lying around somewhat motionless, but these "kitties" were in constant motion. It was very hard to get a picture they were moving so quickly. One of them wanted to eat the coyotes that were caged next to them, I think. He just kept looking through the fence at them. Needless to say, those coyotes were staying WAY over on the other side of their pen.

HI KRISTA!!
How nice to be thought of. :goodvibes
Technically, I did quit the zoo in June of 2005 because DH and I moved about an hour away. However, I went back to help them with zoo lights in December and was told I was being left on payroll and would be on an on call status if needed. I said GREAT!! :cool1: So no, I'm not officially working at the zoo on a regular basis, but once a zoo employee, ALWAYS a zoo employee, at least in my opinion anyway. There's a small zoo here where I live now only about 5 minutes down the road, I'm thinking of giving them a call and see what's going on there! :teeth:
Again....WONDERFUL pix!

OMG!!! Baby Krista is adorable.
Shameless plug for the DFW DIS Meet -If you are jealous of the weather, come join our DIS Meet in a few weeks. We won't see animals - just eat them :)
Krista - your pictures are great. A piece of advice for anyone wanting to go to the Ft. Worth zoo is to not go during Spring Break. It took us 2 hours from when we exited (Universiry, right?) until we actually got into the zoo.

Just as I expected - I am a threadkiller! Sorry Krista.

Great pics-now I gotta go to the Ft. Worth zoo!!!!

:sunny:

Thanks for sharing. DH and I need to go soon. Maybe this weekend. I love the FTW zoo!!!!

ETA: We are season pass holders and love it. One of our favorite stories is with the white rhino. We were watching him and a father and son come up and are standing next to us when the rhino decided to his bathroom business. The kids were like dad what's going on???? The father very quickly said sons that's what you call downloading. :rotfl2:

When is the DFW meet - maybe my leg will be well enough for me to venture down there by then!

Nice pictures ::yes::. We could only see the tail end of the alligator because of how he was positioned, and the black and white monkeys were not outside. What were you in TX for?

Rascalmom - check here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=987525 . It's on January 21st, so it's coming up soon. And what happened to your leg?? I'm sure you have probably posted about it, but somehow I've missed what happened.

KristaTX

I was in Texas for a training course for work, but really it was more like a 3 week paid vacation! I hope they send me back soon, I had a GREAT time!!!

Wow - I wish someone would send me to Alberta for a 3 week "paid vacation" :teeth:. I'd love to see Canada. Especially in the summer ::yes::.

Maybe we can start the DIS 3-week locale exchange program :).
