Two Weeks Notice

Where my husband works on the day that you give your two week notice is the same day that you are escorted out the door. :confused3


My company works the same way. Most people clean out their desks first and than go to HR to hand in their letter.

Even so, everyone I know who has quit, has written their letter with 2 weeks notice. Even though they know they will only be there a few mintues.
 
I would take it to mean two calendar weeks.

I would hate to burn bridges though, never know if the new job does not work out. Then she would probably not be re-hired by her current boss. Or, if she needs to use this boss as a reference in the future. Even though I think she is right, I think it wise for her to just work the extra shift.

It's never gonna happen, but we would LOVE it if dh's boss just sends him on his way when he turns in his notice. In reality though, he'll probably end up working an extra week or 2 part time around his new job while they train his replacement. :sad2:
 
It means NOTHING to me. I don't care a bit about giving it. Companies don't often give two week notices when they lay you off anymore. And I got laid off after 19 years, and my wife did after 29 years.

Companies can kiss my rear end.
 
No it may not be mandatory - but again - you may need the reference in the future. I need to give 4 weeks notice - or I do not get paid any of my accrued vacation time.

What's a reference? Nobody gives references anymore. The best they will do is say you worked at their place from x to z. Too many lawsuits from giving references or not giving them.
 

That is odd. I don't quite get where he is coming from unless he is just trying to buy more time to fill her position once she is gone.
 
Sounds pointless to me. Even although the negotiated contracts where I worked specified giving two weeks notice, Staff Relations told me that it could not be enforced--you can't chain someone to a desk, or a job, if the employee has already accepted another offer.

If they just call the previous employer or their HR department that is true. I have used previous bosses though as personal references and provided their home or cell phones as the contact number, not the work number. I would more than likely use my current CEO and/or COO as a personal reference if I were to leave my job now.

At my last 2 employers, if you get a call from someone checking references, and you do anything more than confirming they had worked there, it was grounds for termination. That's how serious they are about it. And since the HR department was eliminated when the economy went south, we we nobody to refer these type of calls to.
 
That's the way it is around here, too. Bottom line, if she starts work on the 18th at the new place, then what her current employer inferred or didn't infer from her notice doesn't matter. She would have been wise to state her final day in her two weeks notice.
