Two weeks at value or 1 week at moderate?

Here is my dilema. DH wants to stay at a "nice" hotel on our vacation. We're currently booked at POFQ for Sept 2008. While I would prefer a nicer hotel, I'd also like a longer trip (we don't take many vacations). We're hoping for Free Dining... but we're going regardless. We can stay at POFQ for one week or for slightly more we can stay at Pop for 2 weeks. I've never been to either resort.... and I'm wondering how big a difference the hotel really makes. We'll have a 1 yr old and 4 yr old and we plan on going back for naps and swimming. My daughter did say she wanted to go on the dragon slide at POFQ and I would like to be able to do that... but we also really could use time away.

Help!!! I need advice!

Two weeks away on any type of vacation is a very long time, but two weeks in Disney with a 1 and 4 year old is very very long and very very exhausting! I guess it depends if you are going to do the parks for all 2 weeks, or just hang out around the pool for one of the weeks. Also, no matter what, a 1 and 4 year old like being home, its really the only place they feel totally comfortable, ya know. Its like, you go to grandma and grandpas house for the day, and they love it, but at the end of the day, they are much happier and more themselves once they get home.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Disney and would live there if I could (wink wink) but you also have to think of how your kids will react to it. Also, with the four of you, I just always think the more room the better. Not that you'll be spending the whole trip (or much of it) in your room, but for when you are there, you want it to be comfortable.

Just a thought!

I agree with the above poster. Regardless of the resort, two weeks is a long time in the same room with a 1 yo and 4 yo, and it is a long time for them to be away from home. I'd stick with just a week.

Have a great trip!

I think a week is plenty for kids those ages. We went in October w/ DS8, DD4 & DD2 and they were ready to come home after a week. They of course we sad to leave but glad to be going home - they missed their rooms, pets & toys. Have a great time whatever you decide.

I would probably stick with the 1 week in the moderate. 4yo and 1 yo is young, you won't be able to see it all and do it all, but thats ok, you can always go back!!!
my kids are 7 yo and 4 yo and we did a week in november, they announced next trip they want to stay longer, 7 yo says 2 weeks 4 yo says 30 days :lmao:

but I do think we will do 10 days at least maybe 2 wks on our next trip.

I am in the minority but I would stay for 2 weeks.

We are doing 3 weeks in 2008 and cant wait. We are about an 8hr flight away though!

We stay for 2 weeks, but we usually stay in a condo at Windsor Hills. This time we are staying in the condo for 11 days and 3 days onsite for my birthday.

I would do 10 days, with the first half at a value, and the second half at POFQ. Personally, I would go with POP, then POFQ. Disney will move your bags for you (although it can take the better part of the day). You can save some money by staying at POP for 5 nights and then head to POFQ for a bit more amenities. Price it out and see what happens.

I recently did an almost two week stay at Pop.

I LOVE Disney. Would LOVE to go more than once a year if I could.

...

Stay for a week at Port Orleans.

Enjoy!

Ditto:thumbsup2

I'm not a real big fans of hotels anyway, so I could NEVER stay two weeks in one. Plus, my daughter begins to get homesick after a week...I would definitely stick with one week at POFQ. The rooms at the values would feel like they were closing in on me after two weeks. Not to mention that it will cost you a small fortune to keep up with your laundry for that long:eek: POFQ is a beautiful resort and I know it's a personal preference, but it is much more comfortable and relaxed at the moderates than the values.

If it's a choice between 2 weeks at a value VS 1 week at a moderate, I'd choose 1 week at a moderate.

However, I think that goofy4tink had an excellent idea; Do a split stay for 10 days, but make sure the first half of the trip is at the value, followed by the moderate. :thumbsup2

This is the way I would go too. That way your hubby gets 5 days in a very "nice" hotel and you get closer to the length that you were looking for =)

If you can swing 2 weeks, TAKE IT:thumbsup2 We use the ASmovies and have such a wonderful time! you can relax, take it slow, enjoy all the resorts and parks have to offer without having to cram. I think your kids will love the theming at the resort; plus there are clean and handy laundry facilities so you don't have to "double pack". The food court is so much fun for the small kids. They'll never run out of food they can try and it's a nice break from the pricier park options. Or if you want to do a grocery run or 2, get a family suite so you have a kitchenette. We used to stay 2 weeks until DS and DD hit high school and summer sports leagues (we cut down to 1 week), so I know it's very doable and very relaxing! ASMo here we come June 08

if it were me...I'd do 2 weeks at asmusic (i've heard it's nice) and get a fridge for that time, plus order from gardenr grocer...so I 'd have plenty of kids easy breakfast on hand, some plans to utilize the food court, and make use of leftovers for the kids when they inevitably wear out from restaurants....
you can all get cozy in your room, have a quiet dinner, let the kids swim and then get to sleep, while you meander and take your time through WDW...
I love staying as long as possible.... you could hit a park, take a day(or 2) off, relax, swim, try a restaurant or playground at another resort....there's a lot to do, just visiting Fort wilderness and watching the animal farm is fun for kids...relaxing.... but we tend to just hang out together anyway,so I'd put my kids to bed,and sit outside the door with Dh,read a book, sip some wine.....

I'd do one week. One week will end up being cheaper (less meals and such). I know when I was smaller I would have wanted to go home after a week or so. If you decide on 2 weeks, take the kids to Sea World or something. 2 weeks of just Disney is a bit much for kids I think. Maybe if you do one week, you can save more vacation time and go on a shorter vacation closer to home at a different time.

Definitely a week. Everyone gets bored and sick of each other after a while, and being at Disney will have you exhausted with such young kids. Definitely a week at a Mod.

I would also do a week with little ones at a mod and keep her dream of the dragon slide. You can plan a return stay when they will really appreciate a two week stay and so will you.

IMO a 10 day trip to Disney is perfect. We usually spend 8 nights deluxe but a day or two more would be perfect. DD7 and DS3 usually beg for jsut one more day to my DH. That said DH is usually ready to go home after 1 week. I would either do 10 days with a split stay or 1 week in a moderate. I have never stayed at a value resort yet but I think for a week it be too much noise and overstimulation for us. For a few nights I would happily try a value resort though and am in March.
