Two weeks at value or 1 week at moderate?

IMO 2 weeks would be better...I'd be afraid that I'd try to cram too much into 1 week, and be tempted to have the children skip naps and to get more time in the park...not a great idea with all of the excitement that Disney provides. I'd take the longer stay, and take advantage of going back to the hotel during the day for naps and such...Good luck with your decision!

We just spent two full weeks at POR in September with a 1 year old and a 3 year old. It sounded awesome at first, but then after a few days reality stepped in. I think that sometimes we or rather I forget how little my kids are and that they too have limitations. We are very laid back so we did not think much of it, but our 1 year old did. I was soon wishing that we had decreased our days and stayed at a higher level resort. I agree with the above posters, that 9-10 days in Disney is perfect. By the way POFQ is so nice. If we where to stay at a moderate that would be my only pick! Have fun!!!

Hello

If I were in your Shoes I would check out renting points and staying at a DVC Villa. You can save considerable by renting points and be able to stay in a nicer room than in any Deluxe. A DVC Studio might be right up your alley. It Sleeps 4 and comes with a refrigerator, microwave and coffeepot. The cost of points usually ranges between $10.00 and $11.00 per point. A week’s stay In September in a Studio at the Boardwalk with a Preferred View would cost 104 points. At $11.00 per Point = 1,144.00 that amounts to $ 163.00 a night with no taxes. Where on Disney property can you get a room at a deluxe for 163.00 a night? For additional days Sunday though Thursday would cost 12 points or $109 a night. Renting points from a DVC member does not come with out risks. Do your homework; ask a lot of questions, read the Stickys. I have made up a tips list for renting points for who ever might want it. Just Pm Me and I will send you a copy.

Good luck to you

Have you done a two week vacation in the past (Disney or non-Disney)? How did the kids like it?

We were raised on two to three week vacations in small motels, and never knew anything different. I still prefer a two to three week vacation, although I usually end up having to take 10 day ones most of the time.

There are a few things to think about (some of which have already been mentioned):

The additional costs other than accommodation if you extend the trip, like food, laundry, extending your tickets (which you wouldn't HAVE to do, but you might want to)

The smaller room size at a value, considering you will probably use a pack n play for the youngest one.

Will you want a refrigerator? They are included in the moderates, but you have to pay extra in the values. Having the refrigerator gives you options like cereal and milk for breakfast and sandwiches in the room.

Staying longer will allow you to be more laid back. You won't feel like you need to spend every moment in the parks. If your kids like to sleep late or go to bed early, you won't feel like you're missing out if you stick with their regular routine.

But you know your kids best, and whether they do better on shorter trips or longer ones. If it were me, I would probably stay value, and split into two trips!

I would stay at POFQ for a week.....

If you are going to get the DDP you would have to buy at least a 1 day
ticket for everyone at resort #2 to get the DDP.
That might make the savings less for a split stay.

I do like split stays though....feels like 2 vacations:goodvibes

Do a week at POFQ.
I've done two weeks in a one bedroom at BWV and I was ready to be home by day 9.
The extra room at the moderate will make everybody more comfortable. Those All Star rooms are small!
:)

We always go for two weeks in the summer and love it. It gives us time to relax and not have to do the parks "commando style". Of course my kids were a little older when we started (2, 4 and 5 at that time). I think I'd opt for maybe 9 or 10 days at a deluxe like WL (cheaper deluxe, not much more than a mod for better MK transportation, bigger beds and private balconies and patios).

I would do 10 days at POFQ. The cost may be a bit more than 14 days at POP but it would be close to the amount you would of spent on food and other little items if you stayed 14 days. That way you get a little longer stay, a nicer room(?never stayed at this resort) and your daughter gets her slide. Plus you won't feel rushed. I never never felt like 7 days were enough but 9-11 day trips were perfect.

Two weeks away on any type of vacation is a very long time, but two weeks in Disney with a 1 and 4 year old is very very long and very very exhausting! I guess it depends if you are going to do the parks for all 2 weeks, or just hang out around the pool for one of the weeks. Also, no matter what, a 1 and 4 year old like being home, its really the only place they feel totally comfortable, ya know. Its like, you go to grandma and grandpas house for the day, and they love it, but at the end of the day, they are much happier and more themselves once they get home.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Disney and would live there if I could (wink wink) but you also have to think of how your kids will react to it. Also, with the four of you, I just always think the more room the better. Not that you'll be spending the whole trip (or much of it) in your room, but for when you are there, you want it to be comfortable.

Just a thought!
I agree with SharpMomOfTwo. 2 weeks in a hotel is a loooong time with a 1 and 4 yr old. Go for the moderate.

I would either do the 10 day split like suggested or the week at a mod. Last time i went we did 10 days at a value and my husband was ready to go by day 6 or so. I was ready too but did not want to go at the same time...(weird I know...)

My two year old loved being there and everything but they start to get tired of being away and they start wanting your cooking ect. My son stoped eating after a couple of days, he just did not want the food anymore. we were on the dining plan also so we at at a TS every night. He just wanted mommys cooking and nothing else (never new he loved my food so much:goodvibes)

I think it would be harder for you with two at that toddler/pre-school age. If you really wanted to go that long I would suggest a villa so that they have room to run and play without being overwelmed by the large amounts of people and all the icons ect. And this way you would be ale to make a few meals. let me mention that some tend to get diarrhea when they eat out too much; even at Disney they dont cook with the love and care you would at home and it can get to the bellies of the little ones.

I would definitely go one week in a moderate. Imagine moving your two kids into your bedroom for two weeks with two weeks worth of stuff piled around all over and would that be fun? Nooooooo................ LOL!

POFQ has a great pool and it is a nice, small resort - easy to get to everything. Nice boat to Downtown Disney too.

Split stays work for some people but I really prefer to unpack it all and not have to think about it until we get ready to leave. I'd hate to have to repack mid-trip. Some don't mind doing that though (and I've been tempted!).

If your heart is set on the two weeks maybe off-site at a bigger place (rental home with its own pool perhaps?).

My preference with kids that age would be a deluxe cause of the balcony (place to go while the kids nap) - and perhaps a monorail resort. I'd prefer to spend less time in a nicer resort than more time at a value. When they are old enough to take care of themselves (like take their own baths and dress, clean up a bit, etc) it becomes less of an issue. (wait! my husband can't even do that on his own - LOL!)

Good luck!

Another vote for 1 week at POFQ or other mods.

2 weeks in a value room would drive me insane. I'm sure you have, but don't forget to factor in another week of food, laundry and entertainment costs. Disney is awesome, but unless you're going to go to all other parks and maybe even the Cape or you're into golf or have lots of money to go shopping at outlets, there's really only so much you can do. 2 weeks is too long. Of course there's people here who do that or longer all the time, so, to each his own. :hippie:

Just came back from Disney for 2 weeks with my young kids, it was wonderful. Definately do it if you can swing it. We made sure to do Sea World and some other things off site as well. 1 week goes by WAYYYYY too fast IMO. 2 weeks you can go at a much more mellow pace, go back for naps, have some down days poolside, leave the parks when it gets too much. And not feel like you have to rush to do it all.

We had a great time!

If it were me I would do the 2 weeks at a value. We have stayed at all levels of the resorts and are DVC members and we have enjoyed our stays at the values. We usually stay at Pop but have also stayed at Sports and Music.

We always stay for 10 days, it seems to be just enough where you don't feel rushed, and you also don't feel like you're over doing it either. We did a split stay once between AsMo and POFQ and had a great time. Whatever you choose, have a great trip!
