Just back from six days at AKL and some of the best meals I've ever had! Some examples:
The chef (Joachim) at Tusker House took us on a tour of the buffet, and showed us the vegan options. We thanked him, but then he said he would make us some special dishes. We said that we figured we could find enough to eat at the buffet, but he insisted! Well, he showed up with a whole tray of food (he commented "you should have sat at a bigger table!") and everything he made us was delicious!
We had an amazing meal prepared for us by chef John at the Rose and Crown last fall, and we had a different chef this time (I'm afraid I can't recall his name) who also gave us an outstanding meal. Started us off with the lovely apple salad, then the vegetable curry but with a bunch of vegan condiments and side dishes that really made it exceptional, and then a beautifully arranged dessert with citrus fruits and sauces plus a raspberry sorbet. Stunning to look at and wonderful flavour!
And I'll just describe one more - at Kouzzina, the chef (George) started us off with breads and dips (eggplant tapenade, olive tapenade, hummus), a Greek salad made without cheese, and then gave us each a large platter with small portions of five different dishes (can't remember them all, but they included fava beans in a seasoned tomato sauce, grape leaves stuffed with rice flavoured with lemon and thyme, etc.). And of course another elegant and tasty dessert.
It's such a treat, when you're vegan, to be able to go to a different restaurant every day and have chefs who KNOW what "vegan" means, and who happily invest a little creativity in making you a special meal. This is one very big reason why I keep coming back to Disney!
