Ive never written a trip report before, wanted to when we were down this past March, but I came home to two term paper for school to write (I decided to go back to school this year, maybe Ill figure out what I want to be when I grow up, who am I kidding? Ill never grow up!!!!!) so the trip report never got done. So here goes with my first attempt!!!
First of all, heres the cast of characters: me (40 something), DH (also 40 something) and our two DDs "Princess" (16) and "Little Legs" (11). Little Legs gets her name because she has the misfortune of being born into a family thats 58 or taller! She has Downs Syndrome, one of the characteristics of Downs is shorter limbs, so our walking to places takes a lot longer that it could, but most of the time, we adjust!
Our family makes a trip to WDW every other year, weve done this since Little Legs was 9 months old. The off year is supposed to be when we travel to non Disney locations, but the reality is the off year is when we save our money, go Disney world which is Little Legs mantra! So we had our every other year trip this past March, 6 days in the world, three days visiting family over near the Gulf. While we were at WDW, we finally looked into DVC, and liking what we saw, bought into SSR. Since it was still under construction, we could only look at it from across the lake at DTD.
After we got back from our spring trip, we found out our summer plans had fallen apart.
Both of our girls are figure skaters, and a big competition which is held during the summer was happening in Minnesota. We planned on going (Mall of America was calling my name!), but the girls skating coach informed us she was moving to Michigan, so we needed to get new coaches (and we missed the deadline for registration for the competition) So one day, DH asked me what it would cost if we went to the competition. I gave him rough numbers, and he said, since we planned on spending that money anyways, we could go check out our new home! (see why I love him so much?) Airfare was less than half of what we paid in March, so he set it up, got us a 1BR at SSR. He chose his birthday (8/9) to be our trip down day, and wed come home 8/12.
We decided not to tell Little legs we were going back to WDW, partly because we wanted to see when she figured it out where we were going, partly we wanted to surprise her, and we knew if we told her we were going back, shed expect to do all the things we normally do. We werent planning anything for this trip (which was driving Princess and I nuts), we were going to completely wing it. We were going to just do carry on luggage, no checked bags which was a challenge for a 16 year old who likes to take her entire wardrobe! (theres a washing machine in the unit, so I figured Id do a quick load of laundry at some point, so we didnt need to pack everything). Wed make breakfast in our unit, to save some money and time, so I arranged for our town car (Tiffany) to do a grocery stop. I packed our ground coffee, remembered to grab a few dryer sheets, and we were ready to go!
