Southern California Two Solo Days in Carlsbad - San Diego

DH and I have a week booked at a timeshare resort in Carlsbad Ca, first week in October.

I will have at least two days on my own, while he takes the car to go scuba diving. Trying to decide what to do.

We will probably go down to the Zoo one day together. I could just hang around Carlsbad as our place is near Carlsbad Village, but I am not that much of a shopper. Doing that for one of the days would be plenty!

We are also a couple of blocks from the Amtrak station, so it would be pretty easy for me to head down to San Diego, either the Old Town or SAN stop. Getting around the downtown/Balboa park area looks pretty daunting from there, so many bus lines! As I said, think I will do that with DH.

Thinking about either Old Town or heading over to Sea World for the day. I would like to see the Cirque show, is that a daily show? And is it pretty easy to get to SW from Amtrak? Looks like I could see everything in Old Town in a couple of hours.

Suggestions appreciated!

The Cirque show is daily in the summer... I've seen it closed in the off-season, so I'd check the schedule.

That being said, getting to Sea World via Amtrak is pretty easy. Just get off at the Old Town station, and grab a bus. There's details on their website. It's pretty straightforward, no bus changes necessary.

Hi OP just a couple of ideas based on our visits to San Diego.

From the Amtrak station you could walk over to the waterfront and get the harbor cruise or the ferry to Coronado. At Seaport Village(which is within walking distance from the Amtrak Station) or Old Town you can pickup the trolley tour which goes out to both Coronado and Balboa Park.
We stayed at the Hyatt near the station and walked to it to take a day trip to Carlsbad.
