Two Single Strollers or One Double?

Hi, we are leaving for Disney November 25 and I have a 2 yr old and 1 yr old. I can't decide if we should use 2 single strollers or 1 double stroller? Any recommendations? Also, if you recommend double - side by side or front and back?

You would probally find it easier to manover 2 single strollers. I would personally go for that option. It also means that 1 parent doesnt get stuck with the buggy all the time and its a share thing. I am sure others will come along with opinions.

I just bought the Maclaren Rally Twin side by side double for my 3 year old and 1 year old. I considered the two stroller option but decided against it. Since we do not plan on splitting up at all, it makes more sense for us to only have to keep up with one stroller. That way if one of us needs to run to get a fastpass or get a drink or go to the bathroom, the other only has one stroller to keep up with.

I have a front/back double stroller and really love it but it's so big when it folds down that I decided to buy a new one for the trip. I really love the Maclaren so far. I bought the '05 version for only $189 including shipping.

Its a connector that attachs two umbrella strollers to make a double! Then you would have the best of both worlds.

While I have never gone with two little one's that young, I would still have to say two single. It is much easier to push a single. I would look for the inexpensive strollers that recline. My kids fell asleep in that hot FL sun. The big heavy doubles are difficult to collapse and lift for the bus or tram.

UGH, this is our biggest question right now.

We have an 11 month old and a 4 year old. I would love to take our double stroller but I know it will be PAIN to take on the buss. It is huge and heavy, plus we have to take the trays off it to be folded. I don't think my DD 4 will want to ride along that much. I thought about taking an umbrella stroller and tying it to the push bar on the other stroller. Then if she gets tired we can just open that one up. I don't know though, that might end up being a pain. If we were driving I would definitely take the double.

This what I found from Mousesavers, Disney rents strollers at $10 per day for a single, $18 per day for a double. There is a discount for multi-day stroller rentals that works out to $8/day for a single, $16/day for a double. A multi-day rental will also save you time, because you'll be given a receipt that allows you to go up to the cast member dispensing the strollers, have them stamp your receipt, get your stroller and you’re off! No more waiting in the long cashier line to pay for a daily rental. In addition, they will refund any unused days.

If you have young children I here that they are hard and not very comfortable.

I'm glad to have found this thread! We have been wondering what to do for our family too. We'll have a 3.5 y.o. and a 6 month old at the time of the trip. We are trying to decide between the following options:

1 single stroller and a baby carrier
2 single strollers
1 double stroller

We're leaning toward the double stroller choice, but it's hard to decide. I appreciate the responses from the veteran Disney-goers out there!

we took a double side by side last year...it was hard to get on and off Disney Transportation and was heavy and bundlesome for us with the baby stuff to carry as well....ended up driving to all the parks to make it work...i sw a clip on 2 single umbrella strollers to join them...not sure how well they drove but it could be an option too....but I'd still say go double ...if you use side by side both kids can enjoy the view better in my opinion and why we did it that way!!!

My personal opinion is to pay for the rental for your length of stay. We went in September with a 4yr old, 2yr old and 17 month old and it was very convenient. I think is cost us $80 for 5 days. The best thing about renting was that we didn't have the hassle of messing around with it on the Disney transportation. All 3 kids like to walk around and not ride in a stroller so it was easier for us to rent instead of dragging one with us to and from the hotel and transportation but each child/family is different. The only down side to renting is at the end of the day, it would have been nice to have the stroller return by the bus stops for restort guests. It can be a long walk carrying sleeping kids from the park entrance to the bus stop. My personal opinion is that I would still rent a stroller instead of taking one with me.

Can you tell me if the rentals have a spot to store stuff? Like a backpack, drinks, etc? If I rent it would be a double stroller as I have two DD's - 5 & 3.

Every trip I toil over what stroller to bring. My girls are now 3 1/2 and 5 and we've made a number of trips to both DL and WDW. In the end, it always comes down to comfort for my girls. The fact that both girls can comfortably sleep/nap in our double jogger makes all the difference in the world for us. I also have a very sweet husband who is willing to lug/fold/sit with a stroller on his lap on a bus. That being said, we tend to stay at the parks and don't go back and forth so we only do it twice a day. IMO do what will keep your kids the happiest, a bit of juggling at the end of the day on the bus is a pain but worth it when your kids are rested and well attended to.

Another note... Keep in mind that some of the resorts are huge and require a lot of walking within the resort. We were happy to have ours at POFQ last year. I don't remember if I saw strollers for rent in Downtown Disney but it was sure nice to have mine especially with all my loot There are pictures around these websites somewhere that show what the rental strollers look like.

Good advice! I never thought about what to do around the resort. We are staying at POR and also plan a trip to DTD. More food for thought...I'll talk to DH as he will be the one doing the "lugging"!

We took two compact umbrella strollers. These were fantastic! Walking around the resort and DTD, strollers were essential. Even waiting at bus stops, gave kids somewhere to sit (rather than dirty, crowded sidewalk). The single strollers are easier to maneuver through crowds, and the umbrella strollers fold up so small, when one child wanted to walk, we just collapsed his stroller and hooked it on the other. We did rent a double one day, worked ok, but they were hard plastic, no storage. Also, by the time fireworks lets out, our kids would be asleep, carrying a sleeping 4yo all the way to the busses does not sound fun.

My kids are 20 months apart and when they were both in a stroller all the time I much preferred my side-by-side double over singles. Now that one child is old enough to walk quite a bit, I am switching to two singles.

We are taking our first trip here in less than a month. I have a 4.5 year old dd and a just shy of 2 year old ds.

We're taking a double jogger...the instep safari...that has a swivel front wheel. It is very nice to push, comfy for the kids and we'll need it in the airport anyway.

Hi! We went with our girls when they were 2.5 and 1.5 last year and we took two single strollers. We went back and forth before our trip and in the end we were definitely glad we had taken two rather than one. There were times we needed to split up for a few minutes, and sometimes there were places we couldn't have navigated our double. The most important time we were glad to have two singles was on the crowded busses back to the resort after the fireworks. (And it was not a crowded time - we were there in January - if it was crowded it would have been even worse!)


We have an awesome double at home (Peg Perego Aria Twin) but I wouldn't have liked it at DW.

We have done both the double and two singles and I can tell you that I would never take a double again. There are many reason that I prefer the two singles. The biggest reason is that is is far easier get around with 2 smaller strollers. Good Luck!
