Two rooms or offsite house, any thoughts?

Did you do two rooms? Which resort did you stay in?

I guess that it a good follow-up question. Which resorts are good to have 2 rooms at in? Not asking for attached rooms, but close enough that it is a good experience.
We actually rented DVC points for a 2 bedroom and studio for my parents. Kids ranged in age from 4 - 11, so pretty much everyday some went to the pool, some napped, some walked to another park (stayed at the BC, so walking distance to Epcot and DHS). We would even split for some evenings, with my parents taking the kitties to MK for a parade, while DH and I took the bigs to Epcot for some sushi.

My parents (who lived a mile from us, and saw my kids daily) said they were very happy to have their own space, because if you are not used to kids 24/7, it's an adjustment. There is no way we would have survived being forced together the entire week.

As for driving, if my family of 7 are traveling more than 2 hours, we split up into 2 minivans, and are much happier.

My mother lives with us, so she is used to the kids. :) We added an in-law suite to our house so my mom could have her own space, but she never closes the door between her apartment and our house. And my youngest(8) still manages to wake up in the middle of the night and find her way to my mothers bed. It is hard to break her of that habit when my mother snuggles with her when she climbs into her bed. :)

In 2006, we brought MIL and FIL, so 5 + 2 - we booked (2) rooms at Pop and worked out fine. The oldest stayed with them; we had joining rooms. 2014 visit - I had added 2 more kids to my herd = 7 of us, so 2 joining rooms at POP again - but no MIL & FIL. IMO, to get the most of WDW, stay on-site - but this was also flying in and using DME service. Just keep in mind, I have never stayed off-site on a WDW trip so I don't really know...just enjoyed staying on site every time at WDW.

DW and I are looking at driving down in June - 2 rooms at POP (UOC for discount and free hopper) for a week then off to the beach for a few days then 20+ hour drive home.

Wow, 20+ hours! We drive from Cleveland Ohio, and it is a haul, but not 20+ hours. :)

I am going to run the numbers on the DVC suites as well. I am guessing Bay Lake tower might be the best for us. But I will check them all.
2 BR at SSR is going to be quite a bit cheaper to rent than BLT, check all of the sites
