So I was going to book rooms at one of the on site hotels and was told I have to get TWO rooms because they only allow 5 people per room. Our little family is made up of me, DH, 7 year old twins, 5 year old son and one year old. At off site hotels we never had a problem with this. So... ?

All hotels have fire codes and occupancy limitations. Most are 4-5 to a room. HOWEVER, they generally don't count infants (2 and under.) Call back and ask to speak to a lead. But when the baby turns 3, most hotels will require you to have a larger room (mini suite, 2 rooms..)

Yes, I agree with the baby issue... usually they don't count the baby as they don't take up a "bed" just a playpen etc.... I would check back that seems silly :confused3

If anything, go for an Embassy Suites (South or North locations), because they are two room (sitting room and bedroom) they feel much more spacious for a large-ish family.... we felt so much better than staying in a normal room. You don't feel like you're on top of each other you know :goodvibes

Ahh, thanks for the replies.

Honestly we usually just drive our camper up so we are used to being on top of each other :upsidedow I was thinking about making this years' trip a little more special... oh well... camper it is..... que Willie Nelsons' "On The Road Again"

:dance3:
"On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world keep turning our way and our way"

In defense of the hotels, the Fire Marshal set the occupancy numbers, not the hotel. It has to do with the square footage of the room. We stay at the Residence Inn Maingate. It isn't abnormal for us o have 8 to a room.

The problem was they don't have 4+1 baby they have 5+1 baby (note the 7 year old twins and the 5 year old in addition to the baby)

Good point. ie: don't shake fist at DLR shake it at the Fire Marshal for keep people safe with fire codes and other safety type stuff.

"dang you Fire Marshal!"

Ha ha. I couldn't resist. :)

The fire marshall sets the maximum occupancy number. The hotel can choose to go with a lower number, based on the bedding they are providing. For example, DVC 1 bedrooms are around 700 square feet, twice the size of a regular hotel room and the max Disney sets is 4 or 5. The actual fire code is probably higher.
