Two resorts in one trip? Please advise.

I find myself in an unexpected predicament -- taking my parents to WDW, rather then them taking me.

My parents, starting in 1990 when I was 10, took me and my little brother (now 18) to WDW every February. Let me tell you -- it's a great way to grow up. We stayed at the Poly the first year and Fort Wilderness campground every year from 1991 to 2001, mostly due to cost issues but it was wonderful. When I studied abroad in college, they even managed to visit and took us to Disneyland Paris.

I am graduating with an MBA in May, and I have just accepted a job with a signing bonus (no one is more surprised than me). I'd like to use part of it to take my parents and my little brother to WDW. We'd go early March 2006, the first time I could get vacation and little brother has spring break from first year of college.

Now that you have the background, here's the question: My mom has always wanted to stay at the BC/YC. My dad loves the MK resorts, particulalry WL. I think the Poly would be poetic. How feasible is it two stay at two different resorts in one trip? Do you lose a significant amount of time moving from one resort to another? Are some resorts better at accomadating movement than others? Do I need to have a rental car?

While I doubt anyone will complain about moving if that's how I make the reservations, I want to be able to tell my parents how it's done when I surprise them with the tickets and before they can worry about the logistics. In looking through the threads -- which are very enjoyable -- I've noticed that a lot of people move around on their trips, but I couldn't find a thread addressing it specifically.

Any help you can give is much appreciated. I consider myself a Disney expert in most areas, but I've never thought about this before.

Cheers,
Ally

I've split a trip between 2 resorts and have had very little trouble. If finances allow, then why not split your stay between the Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian. If you are planning on staying on property, then I would not bother renting a car, as Disney transportation takes you to all the parks and DTD. I'd do the WL first (book a "woods" view room, then request room #5032), then transfer over to the Polynesian (book a "garden" view room and request room #1913 in the Tokelau building). I've had both these rooms and they are great. The pic below is from the Polynesian room and the link below will show you pics of the WL room and view.

We had a split stay with WL and BC and it was fabulous. It is very easy since your luggage is moved for you and all you do is show up at your new resort on the day you move. Since your Mom has always wanted to stay at YC/BC, I would certainly do one of them. Have fun planning.

We did it on our last trip, switching from the Swan to the Hard Rock, at Universal. I was worried beforehand -- we like to relax on vacation, not jump around. But it went exceptionally smoothly and as a result we are switching again this year -- from a pool home for a week, to Wilderness Lodge for a few days. We used a towncar service, we did not have a rental car. Good luck!

PS. Your parents must be so proud of their daughter, not just for the professional accomplishments (congrats) but the big heart!

We also had a split stay, AKL and CR. It was very easy, no hassle, our bags were moved for us while we went out to the parks. We didn't have a car; we just took the monorail from MK over to CR when we were ready to go to our second hotel.

We switched twice during our last trip - we did POR for 8 nights, Poly for 3, then Pop for 1. Each time it was very easy and everything arrived where it was supposed to. I did spend a lot of time thinking about the easiest way to pack - I ended up with 1 suitcase mainly for POR and 1 for the rest, plus other bags with everything we'd use in each of the resorts. This saved a lot of time both with packing and unpacking (we like to unpack everything rather than just living out of our suitcases)... Have a great trip and have fun planning:)
