I asked this question on the Dining Plan Forum, but I thought y'all may have more experience with this situation:

I am a DVC member and we're staying on points in VWL. We've decided to add another night, but we're paying with cash at POP. Can we do one Dining Plan during the entire trip or do we need to book two separate Dining Plans for each reservation?

TIA!!! Kim

You'll need to book the dining plan for each part of your trip. Unless you have an AP, you'll need to book a "package" to get the DDP for your night at Pop. AP holders are allowed to add the DDP without the ticket purchace requirement now.

Since you booked one through MS and the other through CRO, I think they will have to be two seperate plans. And...for the Pop portion, you might have to pay a premium on your room, and you will definitely have to buy at least a one-day base park ticket per person (unless you have AP's as Chelle noted above).

An option might be to stretch out your DDP from your DVC stay. DDP credits do not expire until midnight after your checkout, so you'll have credits that entire day...depending on how you used the credits in the earlier part of your trip.

Depending on when you are leaving after checking out of the Pop, you might be better off using your DVC DDP credits for that DVC checkout day (including dinner) and paying cash for whatever you eat on your going-home day.

I'm not sure if that's clear, but you have to compare the total cost of that one additional day of DDP (including room premium and tickets) to see if it's worthwhile.

Also, if you haven't used DDP since 1/1/08, be sure you understand the 2008 plan. There have been dramatic reductions in the value of DDP this year.

Thanks for the clarification! Yes, I've seen the new DDP for 2008. It's obviously not as enticing as the old plan, but it still works for us. I mainly see it as prepaying meals instead of saving money.

This would be an awesome option for us except that we're adding this day to the beginning of our trip and not the end. So, I assume that since we're not checking in with DVC until the following day that we can't start to use the DDP. :sad2:

Thanks for your help!

You won't be able to get it for 1 night on cash but you can check in early to the VWL even if the room is not ready and start using the plan for breakfast on that day. You should anyway.

IIRC, you can't add the dining plan to a cash reservation unless you stay at least 3 nights.

I think this might have changed with the new AP dining plan rule. I was recently able to add the dining plan to a one night stay at Pop. It was an AP discount room offer and was available either with or without dining.
