Two questions: gate-checking strollers and Disney pins in baggage

Two questions for recent travelers:
1) are you still able to gate-check strollers?
2) We will be bringing some Disney pins down to trade. I would like to have them in my carry-on because we are going right to the parks after dropping our bags at the hotel. Will they set off the alarms? Would they want me to put those in checked bags?

Depends on what airline you are flying. Most airlines do allow your strollers to be gate checked- however you do have to let them know if you want them to be brought up to the jetbridge when you arrive, or want to get it in baggage claim. Call the airline to check.

1. You should minimize the bringing of valuables of any kind during these uncertain times of terror.

2. Call both your airline and your airport and ask using these words:

"Can you tell me if tie tacks, pin on badges, safety pins, and pierced earrings are allowed in carry on baggage"

Putting your Disney pin collection in checked baggage is no better, it could get lost.

I just found one of my DD's Disney pins in my hip pack today. She bought it at WDW week before last, and it's been in there the whole time...including the flight home. I forgot it was there, and apparently airport security either didn't notice it or didn't care!

If it was in her pocket airport security would not have known. Unless you put her down the xray shute. :) If she did not know it was there, then she would not know to take it out of her pocket if it was on the list of items not allowed onboard.

Pierced earrings? Gee, I never would have considered them a problem. Thanks for the mention, I'll be sure my jewelry bag is in the checked luggage now (bringing nothing extremely valuable).

Regarding the pins to trade, would it be possible to wear them, maybe on a ribbon or lanyard? That way it would be obvious to security what they were, i.e. not dangerous.

Gail - I think when Barb D said "hip pack" she meant a fanny pack or waist pack (not her pocket). I've got to believe that it went through the x-ray security machine. Whoever was watching the machine either didn't catch it or didn't think it was on the "forbidden list. I think if I were into pin trading, I'd leave my collection home this time. Wouldn't want to trust it to my checked luggage and I wouldn't want to take the chance that it wouldn't make it past security. But I have to admit, I am still kind of wondering how successful anyone would be who tried to hijack a plane armed with only pins, nail clippers, pierced earrings or tweezers. Even so, I'm happy to see all the extra attention to security. Carol
