Two Photographers?

I seem to notice as I'm reading through these boards that almost everyone has two photographers. Usually one Disney, one not. I'm having an intimate wedding, so I'm trying to understand why so many intimate brides have two photographers. Is it because of the quality of the pictures from Disney? Or the cost of Disney packages (because everything seems to be extra)? My mom and I have both been reading these boards and started to notice that everyone seemed to have a second professional photographer there.

Any advice would help!

I don't think Disney allow thier photographer to be with another photographer anymore, so if an Intimate/Escape wedding is having an external photographer, then you can have a honeymoon photo session as a swap.

i dont think everyone has 2 photographers at all. Maybe i haven't noticed. if a photographer is good - one is fine.

I haven't noticed a lot of people having one disney photographer and one not. I don't think Disney allows there to be another "outside" photographer along with them. And most photographers don't allow other professional photographers to be there photographing the same wedding. Some wedding photographers have assistants that are apart of the same company, but I dont think I have ever heard of two from different companies!!

I think having an assistant is a good idea to ensure that everything is covered, but it definitely isn't necessary! Like someone already mentioned, if you are using an outside photographer for an intimate wedding, you can credit the photography money for disney towards a honeymoon shoot or something similiar!

As far as I know Disney does not allow you to have two photographers... I also think most professional photographers do not want you to have two either and it is stated in some of their contracts. They would just get in the way of each other and it would be a mess. Some professional photographers have assistants and maybe that is what you are referring to? It depends on the photographer if they have an assistant and the package you choose etc. If people are having an escape wedding a lot of girls are 'swapping' their photography part of the package. Ie. they are hiring an outside photographer for the wedding and then having a honeymoon session with Disney photography. The reason they swap is because you can find a photographer whose package includes the high resolution DVD with the rights to your pictures. With Disney you have to purchase the disk for somewhere around $800.00. Hope that helps.

I am having two photographers at my wedding but not at the same time. I really wanted to book Randy Chapman for our photographs but he already had a dessert party scheduled for that evening. Even though he couldn't cover our entire event we decided to use him anyway for the majority of the day and just have a Disney photographer come in to photograph the dessert party we are having following our reception at the Living Seas. If it wouldn't have been for this circumstance we would have only had Randy and not used DPS.

This has probably already been mentioned but I think that the only reason any of the intimate brides use two photographers is because they want to use an outside party for their wedding photos. Since photography is part of the intimate package they are allowed to substitute the DPS package for a MK photo shoot. Usually those take place on a different day than the wedding.
