My DH and I are wanting to split our time between Disney and Universal. How many days is it necessary to cover the park? I was thinking 2, but DH insists we need an extra day. Any thoughts?

You can do it in two, especially if you're stating on site and have Express Pass... but three is a much more pleasant experience.

If you are staying onsite, I say two. If not, then three. Also depends on when you're going. Understand that Universal Orlando is comprised of two parks, known as Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Each is roughly the size of Magic Kingdom.

If you want to see/do everything and are okay with "commando" style two could work. Three would be better imo.

The last time we went, January 2009, we stayed on site (free Express Passes) and did it all in a little over 2.5 days. The last day was short due to travel but we used that one to go back to Universal Studios to re-do some of the attractions we liked or missed the first day there. Islands of Adventure can be done in a day assuming no long waits at Harry Potter. But agree with the people who say 3 days.

But, go to their website and see what attractions interest you. You may be able to pare it down to 2 days.

We do a split trip every year. We usually start with two days at Universal and then move to Disney. The only problem doing it that way is the fact that we get spoiled with the unlimited express pass. We have never had a problem seeing both parks in the two days. The express pass will save you so much time. If you stay on-site you will also get early entry to Harry Potter World so that is a great perk to get. We even have time to spend at the HRH pool and have never felt rushed with just two days.

i do a split stay each year.
i stay a good amount of time at both resorts/parks.

it depends on the dates you are going and if you are staying onsite that could help determing how many days you need at UO.

if you have a family, it always takes longer to do parks no matter where you are.

when a newbie asks, i always say, 3 days.
you can hit all the highlights, do repeat rides, see the shows, eat at table service places (in park, hotels, city walk), make 1/2 a day a water ride day, spend time picture taking, visit with the characters, etc.

3 days will allow you to explore, take in the ambiance and themes of each section and be able to do it at a leisurely pace.

It will be just DH and I. We do not have any children. We were planning on staying an extra 2-3 days to do Universal. I think to do everything, we will move from Disney world and stay in one of the resorts in close proxemity to the parks. I really don't want to wait in line for hours and hours for HP. I need to look into the resorts and get booking once again! :)

The best onsite perk for WWoHP is early entry. If there are long lines for FJ or to enter WWoHP itself, be aware that Express will not help you.
