DBF just went and got our tickets for one of tonights showings of POTC:DMC. He just called me to let me know that the girl at the counter warned him to show up TWO HOURS before our screening time if we want decent seats and don't want to get shut out. She also said to keep a hold of our reciept incase we get there late and the movie is oversold.

Can you believe that?! Two HOURS?! (We'll still do it anyway, of course..)

wow!! that's incredible!

DH went to buy our tickets earlier and they told him to get there about 25 minutes before.

I just know it's going to be packed in there. :crowded:

I just hope everyone showered and put on deoderant today.

They oversell movie theatres now? I hadn't heard of that before--I mean, they know how many seats are in the theatre. It's not like they didn't get their money anyway if there are some no shows.

We're going to the 10:00 a.m. show tomorrow. I'm hoping that it won't be as busy at that time.

Wow. We are going to see it tomorrow.

I called Dh at work this morning and told him we should buy the tickets right away online, and show up plenty early.

The tix are bought, I hope we get OK seats...

DH got out tickets this morning too and they said 30-45 minutes. I think we would be able to get in but finding good seats together is what they are worried about. Cars was horrible, we were there on time and almost didn't find seats together. It was packed. I'm so excited!

Wow. I'm glad I went to the midnight showing, then!!

Actually the root cause is usually the folks who figure out that you don't have to wait in a long line if you buy tickets for an older movie and go in the "wrong" door.

Yeah, they do.. It happened me a few years ago when I went to see Love, Actually (I'm a big Keira Knightley fan :lmao: ) opening weekend. We got our tickets on Fandango and got shut out. We complained to the manager and he said it was due some sort of disconnect with their computer systems and the online companies like Fandango. There's some sort of delay between the two and the in house computers will show open seats even though they've already been sold online.

that just makes me :furious:

We purchased ours online earlier today. I am hoping that DH gets home early enough that we're OK to get there plenty early- he should be home already but there's a payroll fiasco. I guess he's been telling everyone that, "As long as I'm home in time to go to the movie tonight, there's not a problem. I'll come in tomorrow if I have to!" I can't remember the last time we've been so excited about movies since this summer (Pirates and Da Vinci)!

Last night we arrived at 11:10p and the lines were crazy. Each of the 5 theatres had it's own line up outside the door, and they would check tickets as you went in to be sure you were at the right one. It amazed me the number of people coming in at the last minute (we weren't let into our theatre until 11:50p) and trying to cut into the line. They had the entrance to our theatre roped off, thank goodness, as there were several people standing there hoping to jump in as they opened the doors.

We went last night, too. Fortunately we went to the 30-theater megaplex, and while the first seven theaters where they had planned to show it were already sold out (at 11:15), they kept opening more theaters as people kept coming. I wonder how many theaters they eventually filled.
I'm tired now, and need to see Pirates again to figure everything out, but oh my--Captain Jack Sparrow-- pirate:  :cloud9: I do love my pirate...

They are showing it at our local drive -in tonight along with Cars as the second attraction. Think we might get there when it opens and cookout and watch the movies.

wow, ours is really good at checking the tickets at the door... so that doesn't happen here. Well, they at least do it for the movies that sell out.

We got there over 1.5 hours early last night for PotC:DMC, and we were about 10th in line. I can see why they are telling you to go early.

People showed up about 30 minutes prior to ours and got stuck at the bad seats in the front.

I was wanting to go tonight, but I think I'll go see something else instead. I can wait till next week to get my fix. :lovestruc pirate:

I work at a movie theatre and what kills me is that we have 14 screens and are showing this movie a whopping SIX times all day! :confsed3

So much for being the "premiere" theatre in the city

Say it isn't so!!! I was going to take DD to see it tonight, but I'm not sure if I want to go through all that to do it. :(

Maybe tomorrow.

It may be different in your area. We happen to be going to a very popular cinema complex. Some co-workers of mine are going to a different theater and weren't given such a warning.. I'm still advising them to get there 1hr-45minutes early though, just incase!

I bought tickets on Fandango this morning because I had a credit from playing an online game.............got tickets to the 7:00pm show thinking I could get home by 5:30, change clothes then go and stand in line for about an hour........

I knew it would be a madhouse, but DS(10) wants to go ASAP!!!

Personally, I could wait until tomorrow morning..........we saw CARS the first Saturday, first showing and the theatre was almost empty.

Hmmm.....I was going to see it tomorrow since dd will be at her father's house for the weekend. If I don't go then, I'll have to wait another 2 weeks until she's with her father again. What to do, what to do....
