Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked but I need to double check I am right before I commit to two DVC memberships.

If I buy two memberships one at one location and one at another can I do the following.

Book a room at 11 months out at one of my home locations, then transfer my points from the other location to the 11 month booking so I have enough points.

Is this allowed or do I have to wait till 7 months before booking as I will not have enough points separately?

Do Disney charge for transfers between accounts and how many times can you transfer?

Thank you.

Are you considering two separate use years (two separate memberships) but titled the same? Or are you considering two different resort, but the same UY (one membership) and titled the same?

If they are two memberships, you can transfer one to the other, but you have to make sure the points are current for the time of your reservation. If you have to borrow them, you can't use transferred points. But you could make two separate reservations and ask for them to be linked.

If they are one membership (one UY, two resorts), you don't transfer. But each set of points are only usable at that home resort from 7-11 months out. when you hit seven months out, you can combine two different resorts to book at any resort.

You cannot combine points from two different resorts at 11 months out for a single reservation. You can make two separate reservations at each resort (say one for the first four nights, the other for the next three nights) and then at seven months out, try to change one or the other to get seven nights at one resort.

The points always maintain their home resort and use year, even if you transfer them.

You are limited to one transfer in or out a year (UY). There is no charge to transfer.

For example, we have two memberships (two UY - Sept and Dec). We also have two separate resorts (OKW and VWL). We have a Dec OKW and a Sept OKW and a Sept VWL. If I want to book OKW and need both the Sept and Dec points, I can transfer one contract into the other to combine the two contracts to book a single stay at 11 months out. I can also make two separate reservations and ask for them to be linked. Especially if I need to borrow points from both (that happened one time when we booked a GV at OKW). If I want to stay at VWL, I can only use the VWL to book from 11 to 7 months. If I need more points, I can borrow the next UY VWL to double the number of points I can use to book that VWL stay. BUT, if I don't have any Dec OKW points (because I used them already), I can't use VWL points to book OKW from 11 to 7 months out. I can book as much as I can at 11 months out and then at seven months out, see if I can book additional nights at OKW using the VWL points.

OK what I want to do,

Have 150 points at Saratoga Springs UY August
Have 150 points at Animal Kingdom UY August

I then want to book at Saratoga Springs 11 months out but use the 150 points from Saratoga and transfer 150 points from Animal Kingdom.

Can I do that?

No. You can never book SSR at 11 months out with AKV points. You'd have to wait until seven months out.

Plus, are they really two memberships or just a contract and add on with one member number.

You can never combine points from two different resorts at 11 months out to book a resort. Never.

OK thanks.

Transferred points maintain their home resort and UY. So SSR points are always SSR points. AKV points are always AKV points.

But don't forget what Deb said earlier. If you need 300 pts or less for your reservation, instead of using your AKV pts borrow the following yr's SS pts, thus giving you 300 pts to use in one year. Then bank the unused AKV and the next year you will have 300 AKV pts to use.

If you don't want to do the bank/borrow thing your other option would be to book the last days of your SS stay in the 11 mo window and the remaining first days at AKL (that way you are assured of a place to stay) and then at the 7 month window check to see if the SS room is available and if so have your AKV canceled and reserve the SS. The good news is that both of the resorts generally have availability at the 7 mo window.

Thank you, do Disney charge for cancelling rooms?

They do not charge. If you change/cancel less than 31 days out, there are restrictions put on your points (they're put into "holding," which means you can only use them to book 60 days or less out, and can't bank them), but there's no cash penalty.

Other than losing the total value of the points if you can't rebook before the end of the UY.
