Two different cardmembers on same membership number? (IHG card)

Can I put two different IHG Rewards cardmembers on the same IHG membership? (where it asks for the membership number on the application?) I already have the card, but am getting one for DH as it will more than complete our vacation and it's a great card annual fee-wise (as the free night far outweighs the fee anyway). It would totally rock if I could use my current IHG membership for his application, but I don't want anything to cause him to not get the 70k bonus point promotion.

I am asking because when my husband and I both got separate SWA Visa's a few years ago, I signed him up for his own Rapid Rewards account because I thought they had to be different or I would run into problems with the promotion- but in the end that made it a lot more difficult for booking all of our tickets together. However, after reading here, that doesn't seem to be the case and most people seem to put separate cards on the same membership.

Sort of answering my own question here....I don't know the specifics of how it works, but I decided that I'm going to do what I did with the SWA card and just get him his own IHG membership. I feel like that runs the lowest risk, even though it's far less convenient. It makes sense though that I could run into trouble with both on the same IHG membership, so I'm just going to apply (ASAP so we can hit the bonuses before our trip at the end of the summer) and give him his own number.

I believe on SWA apps you must have your own RR# anyway, you can't combine one persons cc with another persons' RR points....but that's it own thing.
IHG, unsure, but it isn't in the terms of the hotel site? There are some hotel sites that will allow free points merging for spouses,and some won't. Or if not for free, it may work to your advantage to transfer them over to spouse account for a fee....
