Two Cat 11 Rooms or 1 Cat 4 ?

There will be 4 of us going. Me, my mom, Mom's friend, and her daughter. Should we get two Cat 11 rooms or get one larger room together? Which do you recommend? Also which one would be cheaper? 3rd and 4th guest are cheaper, right?

The staterooms are not huge. It might be easier having two rooms to give you an extra bathroom (four females sharing one might a problem) and extra privacy.

Category 10's are not that much more than the 11's and 12's. I would suggest trying to get connecting 10's even if you are on deck 2. My sisters and I sailed last September on the 4 night and we enjoyed the Category 9 on Deck 2 that we had. The Category 10's also give you the split bath in each stateroom.

All things being equal, I'd go for 2 rooms since you have 3 adults. That way you have 2 bathrooms, TVs etc.... and everyone can have a little privacy.

I thought about doing to Cat 10 or 11's for our family of 4, with connecting rooms of course. Problem was that we would be charged for 4 adults - rather than for 2 adults & 2 children. Apparently this is DCL policy. They won't do 1 adult/1child per room. So we ended up going with a Cat. 6 room instead. Actually it was cheaper for the Cat 6 than for 2 Cat. 11's.

With 2 rooms the 3rd & 4th person are not cheaper...

Category #11 rooms are not connecting --- they do not have doors between the rooms that you can enter without entering the main door in the hallway. Category #10 DOES have some connecting rooms. In alot of cases it IS cheaper to book all 4 in one higher category room. But, my kids were teens --- therefore would be paying the adult price anyway. It was worth it to us to have the privacy of two rooms -- for the little difference.

Hi~~While not having been on the cruise yet (going Oct6) we were able to book 2 connecting category 9 rooms about $2000.00 cheaper than getting the cheapest room that would hold 5 people(family suite w/ verandah) I'm looking forward to having 2 rooms between all of us. Hope this helps!!

We checked rates for 2 rms (5 of us) and 1 family stateroom. The 2 Cat. 11 rms. were actually $1000. less than the family room. We changed our minds about doing the cruise then 2 months later, decided to do the cruise and now we booked the family room because all of the inside staterooms were booked! When you snooze-you lose! I should add that this was also with a group rate. We ended up with $2975.00 for all 5 in the Family stateroom. I am assuming that from everything I've campared and seen that this is a good rate. Right? I hope?

Well, whether it's a good deal will certainly depend on your itinerary. When is your travel date? Is it a 3 or 4 day cruise? Does it include airfares and transfers?

Also, don't feel bad that you missed the cat 11 cabins. They don't connect. Only cat 10 and higher have connecting cabins. We booked 2 connecting cat 10 cabins for our 7-day western cruise (May 10, 2003). There are 5 of us (self, DW, DS5, DD3 & DD2). For your comparison, our price was $4,400 for cruise only.

Another benefit of booking 2 cabins this far ahead is the possibility of adding more travelers (like grandparents, nanny, etc.) for a minimal incremental cost. Since we're already paying full adult price for 2 of our kids, we can add two more adults at kid's rate anytime before sailing. If we had opted for a cat 4, this wouldn't be an option...

I certainly left out a lot of info. about our cruise when I asked about price, huh? It is the 4 day, w/a day at sea, not Freeport, Nov. 17-21, 2002. No air, transfers or ins., etc., just the cruise.

I am curious to know how you got the $4400 rate for 5 people (7days)? Everything we looked at for 5 people was nothing under $6000.00! We looked at several different options and dates this year and next. Since $6000.00 is not an option for us we stayed w/this one. Maybe sometime! I'm hoping my husband will have the time of his life on this cruise and will want to do it again soon! We cruised 16 yrs. ago on NCL and he did have a good time but he says not as good as me! So, that worries me. He does love Disney (as we all do!) and he is trying to be as excited about it as the kids and I and that is one reason why he agreed to this cruise because we know how Disney operates, at least the parks and resorts.

Alot depends on the time of year you go. I just booked 2 Cat 10 connecting cabins for the 7 day Eastern cruise, Nov 30-Dec 6, 2003. We were able to get the secret porthole rooms for a total cost of 4433.10. No air, insurance or transfers.

We are two adults, four kids, but paying for 4 adults and 2 kids. It's Disney policy. But I am looking forward to putting all four kids in one room so DH and I can have a cabin to ourselves. LOL-like this will ever happen!

BriarfoxinWA.....FYI...all cruises lines price a cabin based on 2 adults in the cabin whether it really is 1 adult, 1 child. This is not just Disney. It is always priced on the 1st and 2nd person in the cabin, then the 3rd and 4th person in the cabin are usually cheaper in the same cabin. I just didn't want you to think this pricing strategy was exclusive to Disney.

I'm just curious where you are getting these great prices. Through the Disney Cruise website, I have been comparing prices for days. The very cheapest I found for 2 category 10 rooms on a 7 day Western was around $5700. The cheapest for the Eastern is around $5100. I haven't actually contacted a travel agent yet, just trying to do my own leg work. Some of the dates, two connecting rooms are actually more than a family suite. Where should I be looking for the best prices?

mmouse37 - I did some checking after I was quoted that price for the 2 adults in each cabin, and found out that all the other cruise lines do the same thing. Didn't stop me from just going ahead and booking Cat. 6 instead (it was actually $400 cheaper than the 2 connecting rooms)

From my understanding, DCL is trying to move away from seasonal promotions to offering only advance booking discounts. So, the further out you book, the better the price for your sailing date. However, certain seasons and holiday periods will always be priced higher because of the higher demand.

We booked our reservation for 5/10/2003 in June of this year -- 11 months ahead. I have kept an eye on the prices and noticed them slowly creeping higher. Recently, one of our friends decided to book a cat 6 cabin for the same date. Amazingly, he said there were only 2 cat 6 cabins left.

I would keep checking around because even though we are crusing this October I was just checking prices out for the 7 Day Western for next year and I found 2 catogorey 11's without air and ins. for $3800 and that was for 4 adults and 1 child. The prices vary depending on the date.
