I am looking for some suggestions....I am going to purchase two cameras and need some advice.

1. I want a personal camera for me....to take pictures on holiday, trips, etc. This will be my first digital camera....I am good with working with new gadgets. I want a VERY GOOD digital camera and I want a VERY SMALL one....Like back pocket....fanny pack small. I guess I want the best smallest one out on the market today.

2. My DD needs a camera for a photography class she is taking this fall. The requirements are: 35-mm camera with manual access to aperture, shutter speed, and focusing controls. Since I am a camera novice....I have no idea what that means....so any suggestions on the types of cameras that may fit that description that are good would be so very helpful!

Thanks!

Okay I can answer #2. She needs an SLR camera with the ablility to manually adjust those things listed (most have a manual setting). You should be able to find one that would work for her at Walmart.

ETA I couldn't find one on the Walmart website (although I am pretty certain I have seen them there), but here is a link to one at Best Buy so that you know what kind of camera you are looking for

Jenn...thank you for your help.

For the student you really need to look on Craigslist or EBAY.

You can often find good used 35mm SLRs in the $50 range with a lens. I know I gave an old 35mm rebel to one of my kids friends from school(for class), it had not been touched in years and I could not really get anything for it anyways.

I have a great little Sony point & shoot that is quite small. I think it's really great quality and takes great pics. It's a Sony W55. You should be able to search it online to get an idea.

You can still buy 35 mm SLR cameras new. I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2 (and then returned it and went Digital ;) ) and they have a Rebel K2 too. But you should be able to find a good used one. Make sure you test it out to see if it works first though.

Good luck. :goodvibes

I'm going to research the Sony right after I check out eBay for my daughter....LOL...she always comes first.
