How does that happen?

I mailed 4 boxes at the same time/same post office last week. Two of them arrived at the same address this Monday. The third that was sent to the same address, has not arrived, nor has the forth that was sent to an address in the same area.

I will take total credit for stupidity, but one of the missing boxes had a $300 Pandora bracelet and $200 cash in it.

I hope they show up...

Yikes! I hope they show up too! I think sometimes when they are on the conveyor belt, they sometimes just get split up.

This may not help you now, but for future reference ... when sending USPS, I always pay the extra 75 cents for delivery confirmation so I can track things and know when things arrive. Easier to just check online than repeatedly call the relatives to see if the packages arrived yet. Also, especially when sending something with an increased value, it pays to insure.

Who knows how overworked the postal people are ... but when they see the insurance and confirmation tags, I like to think that they take just a little better care. Maybe not, but so far, when I've paid for these extra services, I've never been disappointed. :confused3

Good luck with your deliveries. There's still a little bit of time ... hopefully they'll get there soon! :goodvibes

Perhaps you should send a money order next time. It's never safe to send large amounts of cash. I hope you had them insured. Good luck!!

It is weird how that happens sometimes...There have been times when I know to expect 2-3 envelopes sent by the same person on the same day and only 1 shows up then the other(s) show up a day or two later...Weird!

Also, If you print postage online the delivery confirmation is free. Totally worth saving $.75 a package!:thumbsup2

Pandora bracelet and cash box have made it.

Final box still MIA. Fortunately, it's got a couple robes from Kohls in it, and if it's disappeared, they are easily ( and inexpensively ) replaced.

My SIL just emailed me that she sent 3 boxes from PA to WI same time, 1 is here ,1 is in New Jersey, and 1 is in Florida?

Wow I love the Post Office!!!!!!!!

Yea but my was Sarcasm!
I just don't think you should negate the entire US Postal System - if I get a bad meal in a restaurant I don't blame every chef or every waitress..... we did just have a major winter storm on the East Coast. Most (not all) letter carriers are very hard workers. Have you tried carrying a 50+ pound bag thru 3 feet of snow lately? It's not easy work and most work hard for their pay. :grouphug:

I once sent 2 boxes almost identicle size and weight to an address in AZ.

One was delivered and the other was returned as "No such address"

Yes, they bothhad the same address on them.

The USPS is a screwy operation to say the least, but unfortunately it is one of the only options.

I'm glad the box made it...but use it as a learning experience.
ALWAYS insure...and NEVER send cash.

My sister did the same thing - sent me three boxes, all at the same time and all priority mail. 2 made it on one day and third was 4 days later.

I prefer using the post office and will keep doing so! With all the weather, I can only imagine the nightmares all of the delivery companies are facing.

A lot depends on how you mail it as well. Priority vs parcel...sometimes parcel goes with priority and it surprises you and makes it fast. I mail a lot of packages and I am very pleased with USPS.

This is kind of OT, but I did not receive mail for 2 days and neither did anyone in my complex. So the man living next door went to the post office and questioned it and our mail lady had a family emergency and they had no one to cover for her :confused3 so finally today I got some Christmas cards and a package I was waiting for.

I hope everything is ok with the mail lady though.

My mother used to send cash for birthdays all the time. She lives in Canada, so if she sent a check it would be sent for collections, fees would be involved as well as the changing currency exchange rate.

Well one year the birthday cards did not make it. Other cards for the birthdays arrived but Grandma's cards didn't get here. More than once envelopes were "open", like they weren't licked sealed.

Since we live in an extremely small town, DH did not want me to make a fuss.

Working in service industries at various places, both DH & I knew unfortunately how some people would handle difficult or complaining customers. It wasn't always pretty. DH didn't want anyone at the Post Office to be upset with us.

My mom now gets money orders and only one has gone missing in the past yr or so.

Good thoughts, Pixie Dust and prayers sent your way hoping everything arrives safely and quickly.
Keep us posted.

I have had good experiences with USPS 95% of the time. I am almost always pleased. I think a lot of the wacky deliveries have to do with the surge in letters and packages that occur over the holidays. I maild some cookies to my husband who is in the Army. They got sent to the wrong base. Eventually they made it to him but it took a long time and I had paid extra for shipping hoping to speed up the shipping process. Like I said though most of the time I am very pleased.

Our post office is notorious for ineptitude. We routinely get other people's mail and quite a bit vanishes somewhere. There have also been a few cases of people getting mail months later. Most in our area post their mail elsewhere but you never know about arrivals.

This time two packages were sent from a company at the same time and one arrived three days later and the other 18 days later. At least they showed up!

According to the USPS site, insurance only covers cash up to $15 unless you send your item as registered mail which covers cash up to $25,000 - and checks are not considered cash & cannot be insured.

"Limit on money (cash) insurable through the mail

Money (currency / cash) that is sent through the mail can be insured up to its value, within the stated limits:

Except for Registered Mail, the maximum indemnity for negotiable items (defined as instruments that can be convereted to cash without resort to forgery), currency, or bullion, is $15.00
For Registered Mail™ items, including money, the maximum insured value is $25,000
An item worth more than this must still be declared at full value, but the maximum insurable limit is $25,000.
When a claim is filed, money is replaced at the insured value:

After evidence of value is shown (if the actual value was less than the insured amount, then only the actual value is paid)
Important: If you are sending a significant amount of cash, you need to verify with your local office what is considered valid evidence of value before mailing the item. You should also verify that it is packaged securely enough to protect a high value item from being harmed during regular mail processing.
After the claim process is completed
Important: Checks are not considered cash, and cannot be insured other than for document reconstruction expense."

i used to work for UPS... to answer your orginal question about how come they sometimes dont arrive on the same day...

cuz the packages refuse hold hands while in transit.. the entire system is automated. and sometimes things get separated.

i heard a coworker tell a customer this once and i nearly fell out, but it makes sense.:rotfl2:
