two bedroom lockoff question

I know that you can’t guarantee getting a 2 bedroom lockoff vs dedicated. But which are in more demand? I think VGF has equal amounts of both, I would prefer the lockoff when traveling with my daughter and her family and the 2 beds are somewhat less points than a studio + one bedroom, are requests likely to be met? I could live with it either way, but would prefer the lock-off. I know some resorts are all lockoffs, BWV and Jambo, I believe. But those aren't our home resorts. We have BLT, VGF and Riv. I have the DVC Field guide which lists how many lock-offs vs dedicated so can see somewhat the probability of getting a request met. But wondered if people had a sense of which is more in demand.

Lock-off and dedicated 2-bedrooms are guaranteed booking categories and not a request. If you prefer a lock-off, you have to book that category if available at that resort. The room types will be either "2-Bedroom Villa" (this one is always a dedicated) or "2-Bedroom Lock-Off Villa".

Oh good to know, thank you. I was at the Riviera yesterday and the DVC guide told me I could not guarantee which one I would get at booking. I’ll have to try some practice bookings to see availability.

Yeah that is incorrect, especially at RIV. Some people want the lockoffs at RIV because they hold 10 guests while some people prefer the dedicated 2BR because it doesn't feel as split off even though it only hold 9 guests

Well, we can hope the guide meant that, as opposed to being unfamilar with actually booking DVC and unaware of booking categories.

lockoff vs. dedicated 2-bedroom are separate booking categories at every resort I'm aware of. even at some resorts that only offer lockoffs like Jambo, the 2 bedroom villas always have lockoff in the description. so yes, when you book one or the other you should always expect to get what you booked.

Until they took over the living room and the three kids decided to make the living room Murphy bed and single bed their room and the third bathroom their shower and control the AC that goes to our room never again

The mom was of course relieved and very pleased to have her own studio. This image of having of all of us sleeping in our bedrooms and sharing the living room to talk and watch tv only in the common area together was a nice little fantasy. Ive been watching too many DVC advertisements

Never again She asked us if for the next trip we will be staying in one of the rooms with the living room again, that they really enjoyed it i told her it is impossible to get two bedrooms if you're not an owner at the next resort and they will be getting their own studio

Same is true at VGF.

While these are both larger units they still only have 2 bathrooms. I would not want 9 in a room let alone 10 lol.

What a bummer. We just came back from a Vero trip. 2 bedroom with extended family. But we kept the kids in the studio with us. My sister and BIL had the main and my mom used the living room murphy. But I was sure to let everyone know the arrangements in advance so we'd each have our separate areas and share the living/kitchen with my mom only during the day. By 930ish, kids were in the studio bedroom.

This is probably the way to go, ie layout the sleeping situation first preferably before booking. If it is not acceptable I would spend a little more points and book a 1 bed and studio (or in VB case an INN room) separately.

It is nice to be able to share the living room with the kitchen, washer and dryer for the whole family but if not they can use the community washer and dryer while I use the in room one

I've always thought of the room capacities as theoretical maximums. I don't want "uncoupled" people to have to share a bed, and I prefer not to have anyone sleeping in the common area if I can avoid it, though sometimes that constraint has to be relaxed a litte.

As has been noted all the resorts that have both lock-off and dedicated 2BRs treat those as separate guaranteed reservations. However, as to your basic question as to which is more in demand, the answer is it does not depend on 2BR demand. The lock-offs can also be reserved as 1BRs and studios. Moreover, DVC does not hold back any 2BR lock-offs just so they can be reserved as 2BRs. The result is that usually at every applicable resort the 2BR lock-offs disappear before dedicated 2BRs mainly due to studio reservations.
