embarrasment time...I will be 25 by the time my trip actually comes up, by all means a grown woman. Here's the thing. I have a terrible severe phobia of storms and tornadoes. I hyperventilate and faint and last summer I cracked my head open on the coffee table and...it's bad! :rolleyes1
I am scared of the Twister attraction, but I want to conquer it and also, my darling best friend is dying to try it, and she always tries new things for me. Does anyone have any advice for me? Is it terribly scary or am I just getting worked up way too far in advance! My mind does tend to run away on me...
thanks!

Sunny Stace there is a great website that shows you the Twiser ride and others from some home video footage. The website is {ahh heck i can't post it, I haven't posted enough yet I guess} I believe, I've watched the footage, and its probably atleast 50% of the experience. I personally visited Twister and loved it, however, I love storms. Hope this helps :thumbsup2 I got the website from another post here. :cool1: Hopefully someone else reads this and can post it, sorry

It isn't scary. It's just a simple effects show. It's more amusing than anything else. The tornado itself is like a wind exhibit at a science museum, just on a bigger scale. The are other effects like rain, fire etc., and the floor drops at the end, but you know it's all fake. In fact, it's even more hysterical (in a corny way) right after you've dealt with the real thing, like in 2004 when we had three hurricanes down here.

Watch for flying cows.

It all depends on what you can handle. What exactly terrifies you of storms? The thunder and lighting? or just the general thought? I used to be terrified when it even rained because I went through Hurricane andrew down in Miami when I was little. I sometimes get freaked out during twister. But knowing its all fake relaxes me, and its pretty interesting to see a tornado that up close! So it all depends on what your willing to experience...

LOL, phobias don't have anything to do with age, they usually come from a trauma in childhood and hold onto you until you seek treatment, rationalize it, or die!

If it bothers you, skip it. It's just a recreation of a storm and with the exception of the plastic cow flying by, it's quite realistic. I do appreciate the fact that you're considering braving it, though! It's not worth you cracking your head open again, though! :earseek:

Another thing to think about.... have you watched the movie Twister? Because I was in the front row of the Twister attraction and very much felt like I was Helen Hunt in the movie where she is looking up into the F5 Twister. Now I must admit I have an overly active imagination so this wasn't a huge jump for me :rotfl2: and probably why the ending took me so much by surprise that my heart stopped! ;)

that is precisely me!! I have an overactive imagination and am such a drama queen....the minute it starts to rain and thunder, I'm picturing my house flying away and losing everything... :guilty: :sad2:

Definitly not scary. However, It is VERY loud!!!! If you go just do what the other Disers said and stay closer to the back.

It's funny, I was so psyched to see this and I didn't think it was scary or realistic at all. I was kind of disappointed. It definitely feels like you are watching a scene, and you don't feel as though you are in the middle of it.

Ok - I've put a spoiler below in white letters - if you want to read it, just click and highlight the area. I'm not quite as scared of storms as you are - but I have a 'healthy' fear of them and what they can do (part of growing up and living in tornado alley). I agree, stand in the back and be prepared towards the end of the show when:

The 'porch' area you are standing on will shift a little and the roof lowers like the building is going to fly apart. It's not terribly bad (at least wasn't several years ago the one time I did it), but I know I would have been a lot happier if I had known it would happen.

I know it's a rough decision, and remember you can always wait through the queue (which didn't bother me in the least) and just take the chicken exit and meet your friend when it's over.

It's basically a special effects demonstration. It's not scary at all. But that doesn't mean it won't bother you if you have a true phobia. If you decide to do it, as someone else suggested, stand in the back row. That way you will feel less of the wind and rain effects, and you'll see all the people standing in front of you watching the "show".

I'm always trying to figure out how the attractions work, what's making the wind, where did the big boom come from, where are the speakers, etc. totally ruins it for me, LOL, so maybe you could try that.

(I asked my almost 6 yr old ds last night if he was too scared to go on Twister again, and he said "no, it wasn't very realistic, they just use fans" which made me crack up, so I asked him about Jaws and he said, "no, the shark is just a mechanical shark, they cover up those circle things on the jaws that make it move"....guess I ruined it for him too, LOL.)

I think it's great that you're considering it.

i wood suggest u do go on this as its a great experience !! u arent actually in the tornado , ur jus watchin it but the ground duz rumble under your feet !! look it up on google nd u mite find some videos etc and tht will let you see wat its like ! none of us no the extent of your phobia , however bad it sounds so if it is scary for you on the video etc then dont ride it but if you can find a way to gradually get yourself used to tornados ( the film twister etc ) then do that as its not a ride you would easily want to miss !!
