Twilight check in

As we booked our Fly Drive through Thomson we cannot do online check in before our flight. It seems that our locator number is shared with other Thomson customers on the same flight. For this reason we also cannot access the online seat map of the plane to choose seats.

We have now booked my cousin a seat on our flight through VA. So we want to do Twilight check in to get the best chance of seats together.

We are staying at the Gatwick Hilton the night before the flight and will need some stuff for the hotel so we cannot check all our bags in. Can you do twilight check in and not leave any bags and drop the bags the next day? I know it means queuing again but we really need to keep hold of the luggage for the hotel night- we have young kids plus the liquid restrictions mean we could not put all our tolietries in our hand luggage.

I tried the VA website plus the Dis search but cannot find the answer to this!

Thanks so much
Mandy :)

We stay at the Hilton the night before our flight and do the twilight check in.
We take the dregs of toothpaste shampoo etc from home so we can throw away what's left. (so we don't have to carry it on the plane)
We also wear oldish clothes up to the hilton and just bin them while we are there, our fresh clothes for travelling we take with us and hang them in the hotel ready to wear the next day.
If you don't want to leave your luggage why don't you just do online check in and then use the bag drop on the morning of your flight.:thumbsup2

We had the same problem when booking with Kenwood Travel even thoug hthey told us at time of booking we could utilise the online 'perks' (never again!).

We stayed at the Gatwick Hilton & kept one car overnight in the car park next door - you get a discount as a 'resident' then transferred it to the long stay car park in the morning :)

I really wish they'd do the Twilight check in for Virgin at Manchester Airport. I'm sure it would be worth them doing it.

We aren't able to do the online check in unfortunately as we are lumped together with other people travelling with Thomson on the same locator reference.:confused3

We have a baby and a little girl that need stuff at bedtime that we must take with us (electric toothbrush, baby sleeping bag, essential bedtime cuddly friends) so we cannot throw these away or take them back to the car and it would be too much for the hand luggage.

Still hoping we can do Twilight check in to get seats allocated then drop bags in morning.

Thanks for all replies.

Hi -

twighlight check in then bag drop in the morning is fine, though of course it is a bit more hassle... oh, remember everyone in your travelling party needs to be there at the desk for twighlight check in.

We are online checking in and bag dropping at the twighlight check in....Virgin are quite flexible in their bag drop/check in methods.

Our kids are that bit older so with 4 carry on bags between us, we can fit everything we need for the flight for them, + nightclothes + change of undies+ tshirts etc quite easily - all in 1 gallon Zip lock bags to stop the air staff having to handle dirty underwear etc if they search ....

We have up to 4 8x8 clear bags between us for carry on liquids and will not get anywhere near filling them - toothpaste, lip balm, hand cream, cough syrup (air is VERY dry) and that about does it....

when we stayed at the softiel , once they looked after our overnight stuff till we got back for us, another time we took bits back to the car and left them there, if you have doubles of stiff like sleeping bags etc it can be useful to do this, if not just check the bag in again in the morning and drop the rest of the luggage off the night before.

Slight diversion here, but....

For the return journey, I understand you can't do Downtown Disney check-in and then drop bags later at the airport - it's got to be all at the same time. Is this right?

Thanks everyone. I think this is what we will do. Check in night before flight with most bags. Next morning check in other bags.
