It's time for back to school shopping! My little boy has grown up this summer. He went from wearing 8 slims to 12 regulars. Since he's pretty much grown out of my favorite stores (Crazy 8 and Children's Place) now where do I shop for him? He is 11 and going into the fifth grade.

I know Old Navy has those sizes but do you all have any other store recommendations for that age group? They aren't really little kids anymore but they aren't ready for grownup stuff/sizes yet either.

Definately Aeropastale - clothes are well made and decently priced and the kids like wearing them. Kohls is good, and Old Navy is always good. And Bob's - if you have one of thosel Other than department stores, I think that's pretty much what you're limited to.

My DS12 went from slims to regulars in one year too. He's going into 7th grade, and is in his "chunky phase"....I think the onset of puberty is on us. He has grown wider and heavier but hasn't shot up yet.

Anyhow, he's in a 12 regular, and being in middle school, style and brands have become important. For shirts, I buy him XS at Aeropostale and they fit very well. He also has some smalls from Hollister that I got on clearance. They are a little long on him (he is short...only 4'7") but after a few washings, they fit fine. He will still wear shirts from the Children's Place as long as they don't say Children's Place anywhere on the outside of the shirt. I also buy things at Kohl's...he will wear flannel shirts and thermal shirts...as long as there is no "baby-ish" design on the front. Oh, and he likes some of the licensed t-shirts in the young mens department. I buy smalls, and after a wash or two, they fit just right.

I still buy his shorts anywhere. He has some Old Navy, some Children's Place, and of course, he wears a lot of basketball shorts as well (Target). For jeans, he wears Levi's and Old Navy. He wears a lot of jeans and hoodies to school, with sport team shirts (Philly teams, of course!)

I remember that being a hard size to find.
We moved to American Eagle. And he would buy levis as you could buy them based on lengths and waist size. Khols has a bunch in that size too.

What is his waist size? Aero and American Eagle start with 28 inch waists for pants so he may or may not be able to shop there. Aero is great for shirts and very reasonably priced.

That is the age where we started hitting Pac-Sun, Tillys & Zumiez... but be warned, they hit back in the wallet. Still, the quality is very much there, my son's jeans used to fall apart but now they last through some serious beatings with skateboarding, stunt biking and all the other stuff boys put their jeans through.

Lately I wait until the school year starts to do the bulk of my shopping. It's easier once my kids, DS13 & DD12, have had a chance to get in there and see what everyone is wearing, what they like & what they don't. Nothing worse than spending $ on something and then they'll only wear it once because it's 'wrong':headache: Another perk is the fact that waiting means better and bigger sales. Just a thought.

He is with his dad right now but once I get him back on Monday I will be measuring him all over. I was kind of shocked when I realized I needed to know his waist size, leg length and chest size for some of the larger sized clothes. I've never really bought young men's clothing before.

He will always be my little baby.

On a funnier note, I've been fighting with him to wash his face better as it's starting to get a little bumpy but he is proud of the bumps because he thinks he is becoming a man! :rotfl: I think I need to google some bad acne pictures for him and show him what he could look like if he doesn't take care of his skin. They showed the puberty movie to the kids right before school got out and a lot of his friends have grown so much this summer I think he doesn't want to be left out!

Here's another post for Kohl's and Aeropostale.

DS loves the Helix line at Kohl's but once he found Aeropostale, it was all over for Helix. Sign up to get emails from Aero - they send out some decent deals. And head to the back of the store - they sell t-shirts for $10 a piece. There are very good deals to be had a Aero!

Tilly's and Zumiez are now in his line of sight. We may be doing some school shopping there this year. ;)

I will probably do this but he does need a few things to start school with. His shorts are practically Daisy Dukes! :lmao:

Thanks for the recommendations everyone!

We typically don't do any shopping until October or so. It's shorts weather here for the most part until then so no need for them to get pants that early (and outgrow them in March). They get one or two outfits for back to school and then we wait until they need warmer clothing to shop.

I recall that size being difficult to come by. We changed our address to American Eagle. And he'd get levis since they come in different lengths and waist sizes, and Khols has a variety in that size.

We've had good luck at Old Navy and Target. My son wears uniforms for school but he's 11 and in a size 14H and they always have a good selection.
