When my girls were little we had a blast seeing for our trips and made cute outfits. The last two trips we made family shirts. This time the girls want to do a little sewing like in the old days. Any ideas on something simple that they could sew for our days in the parks?

Matching string bags? Or cute appliqués for shirts? Headband mouse ears? Water bottle slings?

Depending on their skill level, a cute skirt with a Disney pattern would be fun. You can also cut strips from an old t-shirt, run a basting stitch, gather it and then sew it onto another t-shirt or skirt and make the outline of a Mickey Head or Minnie Bow. You can fill it in with more strips to make it solid. Here's an photo for inspiration. I would shape the ruffle in the Mickey head shape and keep making smaller and smaller heads until it's filled in. But this might give you some ideas.

So cute!! Wish I was talented enough to do that! @mom2rtk is a talented seamstress too; she might have some ideas.

Great ideas. They can definitely make an elastic waist skirt. I hadn’t thought about backpacks or water bottle holders. They have already planned out some tshirt designs.

Thanks @cgattis. I really do more costumes than casual stuff so don't have a lot of ideas. I do recall being short on ideas when my DD moved into the tween/teen years.

I like the elastic waist skirt idea. Lots of options there And SO many cool licensed Disney fabrics to choose from. When my daughter was a young tween, I did a number of patchwork skirts. Lots of flexibility there with what you can do.

I also did some simple tops like this:

One of the easiest things they could make is pajama pants in Disney fleece or flannel. Not for the parks of course, but still fun to wear at night during the trip.

Good luck and let us know what you come up with!
