Twas two days before vacation
and all through the house
not a virus was stirring
not even a louse.

The suitcases were packed
in the girls' room with care
with hopes that Thursday
soon would be there.

Then, my 6 year-old woke up saying "Mom, my tummy hurts." It's another round of the stomach flu for our family.

We leave in less than 48 hours. Help!!!!!

So sorry.

We are in the same boat too. We are supposed to leave on Thursday, but my 6 year old has a sore throat and fever. I'm going to the ped today, but my guess is we are going to end up canceling the trip and eating the cost of airfare.

We went on a trip last year with a last minute illness figuring that our DD would bounce right back. We wound up passing a stomach virus around and spending the whole time in our hotel room. It was one of the worst weeks ever and we vowed we'd only go on vacation if everyone were healthy.

Sorry:sick:

I don't advocate traveling and sharing the "flu" especially since two of my three boys are immunosuppressed and catch everything BUT....

If it works out to be a 1 day deal-maybe it's something that she ate? if she's not having a high fever- if you think she will be able to travel-

then I'd ask/beg/plead with my doctor for a perscription for phenagren or other nausea medication. It will pretty much make the taker sleep but it works great to get the stomach to stop heaving:thumbsup2 - it's saved us a few times when we had to get home:rolleyes1 . We always drive so no chance of sharing the illness with other passengers like on planes and we have not toured the parks sick. We did spent one glorious half week with flu by the pool and in our room one year and believe it or not- even that was better then being home sick.

I hope it all works out for you!

I work at a daycare and maybe it will help you to know that there are a lot of 24 hour bugs going around right now (as well as strep). There will be kids with fevers and not feeling well on Sunday yet back at daycare acting perfectly normal Tuesday. Also, take into account that some kids will get sick from anxiety about upcoming trips/activities (my DSD is like that). Maybe everyone will feel better in time for the trip.

Yup. There seems to be lots of 24 hour bugs and strep going around. I wouldn't rule out the trip just yet.

we are leaving on 1-28 and my son has had a fever (thats it, no ear or throat pain) since Sunday night and now my 2 yo is getting a runny nose. Off to the Pedi we go!!!

The latest update from St. Grandma's infirmary:

So far, so good. He's acting normal and hasn't been sick. Maybe it was something he ate. Looks like some pixie dust blew in my direction.:yay:

Yea!!!

I'm hoping we've gotten some pixie dust too. I took my DD to the dr and fortunately it's strep!!!! I know that sounds terrible, but it means that she won't be contagious by tomorrow night and should be feeling fine by Thursday. If it was viral I knew we'd be out of luck. Now the only question is whether we risk one of the rest of us coming down with it. I'm leaning towards going, since we wouldn't not go if a child in my DD's class came down with strep and other than the stomach bug we got on vacation last time (when we were living on top of each other) my kids don't tend to share illness very often (knock on wood). Also knowing it is strep puts my mind at ease. Hopefully worst case scenario would be that we lose a few hours at urgent care in orlando (anyone know a good one :) ?) since we will be on the watch for any sore throats and jump on them.

Now that you mention it......We ended up in urgent care on our last trip to DW. DS started pulling on his ears while we were riding the TTA. We were taking a cruise out of Tampa the next morning, so we went to an urgent care facility near Downtown Disney. It was called Florida Centra Care or something similar. They had a pharmacy there and everything. They even will pick you up and deliver you back to your resort or park. Just check with first aid in MK.

glad you little one is feeling better! We are hoping and hoping we all stay healthy, anyone ever take thoes air born meds to keep from getting sick??? Two trips ago when we went in march my oldest son started vomiting while we were outside the air port checking in/ checking lugage, tagging it, ect. we though maybe he was just all excited, and nervous, ect... well he got sick again on the plane, again first time flying... maybe it's just that... he was fine by the the time we landed and got to the hotle, ect... well day two we were all fine, day 3 my sister was sick about 12 hours or so, day 3 i was epcot dinning at the living seas, there my nice lobster tail... i head off to the bathroom, well i had to have dh take me back to the restort with the kids and grandparents while he went back to see the illustions with my dad, sister, and sisters friend... awful. then that night dh was up sick for 1/2 the night... only ones that didn't get it was my grandma, and my 18 months old (and i believe it was b/c she was still nursing), it lasted about 6-12 hours and then we were fine, but yuck, not fun on vacation at all. and again we felt bad b/c who knows who all we might have given it to, not knowing how long we were contagious before, ect... :(

Here's some pixie dust that everyone gets/stays well! pixiedust:
We leave on Sat and DNeph is running 102 fever and vomiting - DSis took him to the Dr. today who said all else checks out and he can go as soon as the stomach flu runs through (24-48 hours) - I'm staying far from DSis's house for the next 3 days !!! My DS had it last week and the rest of us are still fine- fingers crossed !!
