Do you read this to your children/grandchildren on Christmas Eve?

Is there a "designated" reader every year?

When my late DH was still alive, he was the designated reader..

When I was a kid, it was my Grandma - who always slept overnight at our house on Christmas Eve..

How about your household?
:santa:

Yes and it is normally me. Every once in a while DD will request Daddy to tuck her in so he would then read it but normally it is me.

I change it for modern times.

Let's hear it!

My dad would always read it to me when I got into bed on Christmas Eve. I still have the original book that's 25 years old. I got it as a gift when I was born since I'm a December baby. When I got older, my grandpa took over because we started going to their house every CE with all my cousins and he'd read it to all us kids. I'm an only child and I thought it would be more fun having it read with a group listening, but even at age 12 I missed my dad reading it just to me.

C.Ann...you might be interested in this. I bought my DD "A Pennsylvania Dutch Night Before Christmas" at Barnes and Noble tonight. It's the same story, but from a PA Dutch perspective and using much of their language/colloquialisms.

To answer your question, no, we do not traditionally read the story on Christmas Eve.

We used to when I was younger. It stopped when my Grandpa passed away in 1999 as he and I would always read it together. I learned how to read by him doing that and I still miss doing it 11 years later.

When DS was that age, I was the designated reader. SOMEDAY, hopefully he will bless w/grandchildren to spoil, and I'll be able to read it to them if it fits w/there traditions.

We have read it every year since the kids were born. More accurately, I have read it...I love to read aloud and this is one of the few opportunities to do so now that they are older. I cannot imagine not doing so.

Last year was the first year we started reading it to our DS. I bought an interactive pop up version that is just beautiful. I was the one to read it last year with him and will most likely do the same this year. HE is very excited to see it again.

Another book C. Ann may be interested in. An Amish Christmas. I bought it a few years ago when I was big into the Amish. C. Ann, it's yours if you'd like to have it.

If you're uncomfortable with giving me your address, maybe there's a store that would accept it to hold for you?

We have Mary Englebrieght ?sp illustrated version; I read it to the kids after midnight mass on Christmas Eve :santa:

I do tell that poem to DS every Christmas Eve!

And last year I sent it as a recordable book to a little relative far away, too.

We read it. I bought I really nice version with pretty pictures. I used to read it to DD, now she reads it to me and her DNiece (7). So it's fun and she really looks forward to it every year. Hmm, need to find it. DH rearranged furniture and I'm not quite sure where he put the dresser it was stored in.
