In Honor of my boy RMD's pending trip to BWV.
'Twas the night before Boardwalk Villa, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, all excited to see the mouse;
The pin lanyards were hung by the luggage with care,
In hopes that the Super traders soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Mickey Bars danced in their heads;
And Zurgswife in her 'kerchief, and I in my Zurg cap,
Had just settled down for a long summers nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The fireworks on the crest of the buildings below
Gave the lustre of mid-day from the Illuminations Show,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Super Stretch Sleigh, and guy holding six packs of beer,
With a little old driver, so lively and tan,
I knew in a moment it must be the Routeman Named Dan.
More rapid than eagles his mooses they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Klombar! now, Glo! now, Marla and Willy!
On, Nikole! on DaisyDebbie! Oh Zurg stop being so damned silly!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash down this long hall!"
As dropped park maps before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, they took to the sky,
So up to the house-top, to the standard views they flew,
With the luggage rack full of bottles, and jolly RMD too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the porch
The spurting and burning of a little torch.
I drew in my breath as I was turning around,
And he blew out stogie smoke without even a sound..
Dressed in Hawaiian beach wear, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of souvenirs he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
It was fairly obvious he had been drinking you know;
The stump of a stogie he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face but the night had taken its toll,
and when he laughed he dropped a napkin from Jelly Rolls.
He was a little tipsy but a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled refrigerator with beverages; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, grabbling the lines that were loose,
And away they all flew a man and his moose.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he flew out of sight,
"WECLOME HOME TO ALL,
'NOTHER ROUND BEFORE LAST CALL!"
