TV Show Fan Threads - A Question

Are there TV shows you regularly watch, but don't partake in the fan threads because you don't want to accidentely run into spoilers?

I would like to start a couple fan threads where there are no spoilers - for the people that don't like them.

Just wondering if they would go over well, or tank?:)

The Lost threads have one of each, one for spoilers and one for no spoilers.

It's a noble idea, but I'd lean on the side of "tank", and here's my take on why that would be;

Through the magic of TIVO, Recordable DVDs and VCR's, many people like myself do not watch a program when it actually comes on, but instead save it for a more convenient time. For instance, I finally watched this week's Lost earlier today (Sunday) and will probably watch last Sunday's Battlestar Galactica sometime later today. The fact that it only takes about 40 minutes to watch an hour show is an added bonus.

Those who don't do this and only watch when the show actually airs figure that once an episode airs it's fair game for discussion. A big pet peeve of mine is hearing a morning radio host discuss the critical plot points and surprises of the previous nights episode of an unwatched show waiting for me on TIVO.

For that reason, it's hard to have a thread about a show because a plot point that one person wouldn't consider to be a spoiler would certainly be to someone who hasn't caught the episode yet.

Just my two cents in offering another perspective.....

I like spoilers. :teeth: I actually go looking for them. I just like to know what's coming.

I agree.

We currently have two Grey's Anatomy threads this week. On the Official one, those who have been posting or following for a while know not to check on until they've seen the episode, and that means even if they've Tivoed it to watch later. While there is a spoiler warning in the title, it becomes their responsibility to not read the thread once it's airred Eastern Standard time unless they want "spoilers" - which aren't technically spoilers since the show has airred for some people.

The Desperate Housewives thread seems to work the same way. ChristmasElf even posts a recap almost as soon as the credits roll. :thumbsup2

On this second, GA thread, people are posting a link to NEXT week's spoilers. I'm just betting that someone will accidently comment on what they've read for NEXT week, :sad2: because the info is just too exciting to NOT comment on - or someone else who's also read the spoiler will comment on their comment.

I think THAT'S not right. They should start a real "spoilers" thread about NEXT WEEK's spoilers, and make that clear in the OP that that is what it is.

Speculating what you think may happen, or want to happen on an upcoming episode, and discussing/debating it with likeminded people is one thing. Posting & discussing actual upcoming spoilers totally different. :sad2: I've stopped reading the second thread because of it.

I really love the All My Children thread - some great, funny posts there - but there's absolutely no way to get around the spoilers. Even if you don't read the actual spoilers, you can't avoid the discussion about them - and then it's easy to figure out what's coming up.

I'd like a NO SPOILER AMC thread. Discuss the day's episode, the fashions, the stupid scripts, the bad sets - all of that - but no insider future info.;)

Ooh, that means I've got to get over to the second GA thread. I'm only subscribed to the "official" one. I need me a spoiler fix!

That would be fun.:) I never go looking for spoilers, but I do speculate in my own mind and sometimes they're pretty predictable. That's part of the fun I guess.

There's also an ongoing thread for Hereos, with spoilers noted as needed

I rarely ever read or participate in TV threads here because of spoilers.

I would much do both on a board where it is understood what a spoiler is, when they are not welcome, and have
code as part of the site.

The best part of one site I visit is there is a thread for each episode of a show rather than one thread for the whole show. Don't open that episode thread if you have it on the DVR or Tivo and haven't watched. Simple. :)

I DVR just about everything so I can't ready hardly ANY of the threads until MUCH later!
