Tux too much for Palo dinner?

We will be sailing on the Magic Western this Saturday!


I have a last minute question about dressing for Palo. DH is planning to were a tux for the formal and semi-formal nights. The night we have dinner at Palo (not a formal night in the dining rooms) would the tux be too much for dinner? He didn't want to take a suit too and as we understand Palo is dressy, he thought maybe the tux would be okay. Would he be overdressed?

I don't know for sure but my DH is going to do the same thing in August. He doesn't own a suit and I would rather pay to rent a tux for a week than to buy a suit we won't wear again.

Personally, I would rather be over-dressed than under-dressed.

You will find a lot of opinions on this board about dressing up vs. not dressing up. I figure wear what you want...it's your vacation!!

We just returned from 1/17 Magic trip and didn't happen to notice anyone wearing a Tux at Palo. I don't think it's out of place, but if your husband doesn't want to bring a suit how about a sport-jacket to dress up what he would normally wear to dinner the other non-formal evenings.

Sure. Palo is not formal, but it is dressy. A tux in Palo would be fine.

The suggested dress in Palo is simply "jacket recommended." So you'll see sportcoats with and without ties. You'll see suits. And you'll see men who ignore the "jacket recommended" request.

Also, I just found this information on the disneycruise.com website:
For Lumière's and Triton's restaurants and our adults-only alternative dinner restaurant, Palo, it is suggested that men wear jackets or a button-down shirt and tie and ladies wear dresses or pantsuits.

So, according to this, it sounds like a button-down shirt and tie is enough. I was under the impression that it is preferred that you wear a jacket to Palo. That's why DH thought about doing the tux. It would easy to pack a shirt and tie. He didn't want to be under-dressed, though.

Well, if anyone else can give me an idea of what you have noticed at Palo, I would appreciate it.

He will probably be the only one, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm sure he'll look smashing, and unless you're playing beach volleyball or something, it's never wrong to be overdressed.

I belive the general rule of ediquette (sp?) not just for Polo but anywhere is that you can never be over-dressed, only under dressed.

One good example is the high school students that come to church Sunday after the prom dressed in their tux rented for the weekend (or that expensive dress they bought and will never wear again).

We have worn Tuxes to Palos and did not feel the least bit out of place.

I asked the waiter if I was over dressed and she assured me I was not and it would be nice if more people dressed as we were. I think your husband would look terrific in a tux.

Well, you could do what my DH does for Palo. Wear the tux jacket and pants, but instead of the fancy shirt, bow tie and cumberbund, just wear a white shirt and tie. It looks very nice but not too dressy, and it is much more comfortable.
