Tux rental or purchase?

My DH was wondering what the rental tuxs were like?

He is debating between renting or buying.

Thanks!

Unless you are going to a lot of formal affairs, buying a tux to hang in the closet is not really cost efficient. DH has his own black tux and a white dinner jacket, which he has used on several cruises and wore a lot when he was active in the Shriners. But if he didn't own one and we were cruising less than once a year, then I would rent it and not worry about it. I believe the rentals are delivered to and returned on the ship, so it also saves valuable luggage space and you don't have to worry about pressing it, iether.

Thanks for the quick answer! I think is concerned with the fit, he has very broad shoulders, thin waist, and pretty large legs.

All of his suits have to be tailored. Is there a tailor on board that can help him?

If you order using hte online link (which I can't find at the moment) you can send in his specific sizes and they will contact you if things look a bit "non-typical" and you can explain the situation.

I have personally measured dh for both of our cruises and the fit has been excellent! If someone will post the link for the rental ones, I know you could call and ask them what they might be able to work out with you.

Now that I've typed all this, I think it might be www.cruiselineformal.com

That's where we're getting DH's tux.

We went to a local tux rental shop and got him measured for $5. The paper that has the measurements on it is also a coupon for a tux rental that never expires.

My husband bought one from Ebay thru cheaptux.com!! It is really nice and fits perfectly, as he also has broad shoulders and a narrow waist. It is tropical weight wool and only cost $99. It has been worn a # of times since the
dcl cruise.

I also bought from Cheaptuxx.com and they were great.

Some of our Dis friends rented the DCL tuxxes and had no problem, even though one fellow was about 6'5 and gangly and the other about 5'7 and a bit stout.

All fit great and "we looked maahhhvellous"

However, since we all enjoyed the cruises so much we rebooked on board, I already have my tux and they would have to rent again or buy.

I bought the $200 tuxx package, so it pays for itself in about 3 cruises.

For our last two cruises, DH has rented through the company with whom DCL works and has been very pleased!! The tux comes with all the extras that you would normally need to pack (including dress shoes) and, the best part for us is: it is waiting in your stateroom upon arrival. We don't have to "lug" all the "stuff" in our luggage.

On our last cruise, he ordered for both he and DS and both worked out very well. DH went to his tailor and DS went to a tux shop for their measurements and then submitted those measurements to the company when we got the flyer with our tickets.

Enjoy your cruise!!

This is really more of a question than an answer--does DCL use the same cruise line tux rental vendor as the other major lines? I once thought I would rent a tux through the ship to save myself the trouble of lugging the extra bag with the tux I own since that was the one cruise I flew to instead of driving. It was on RCCL, and it was the tux from hell. Literally held together with a safety pin--and it could have used two. No, really, an insult is what that tux was.

So since then I drive, don't worry about how many bags, bring my own tux for the 7 nighters and just go w/o a tux on the 4 nighter.

Just a cautionary tale, and maybe it was just the bad luck to be in what might be a small percentage of bad exoeriences, or maybe it was a bad vendor that DCL doesn't use.

If you plan on cruising more than once..I would buy.

We love having hubby's tux here, and he has already used it more than we thought he ever would. He chose a classic style so he is always in style and looking great. You can change up the shirts, vest/tie etc to make it look different. Also, he loves having his own tux shoes.

We got it at Men's Wearhouse, they also have them at Burlington Coat Factory, the internet and many, many other places.

Men's wearhouse alters it for you so it fits like a glove.
