Tutto Italia- I'm just sick about the bill!

Glad I found this thread. I made ressies for TI for October, now I am rethinking that decision. I was hoping TI would be much better than Alfredo's, which we all hated in my house. Oh well...back to the drawing board!

Don't get me wrong - what we ate was good. I ate the sacchetti and my husband had a pork chop served with broccoli rabe. It was just that compared to the old menu, we were disappointed. If you're going to be on DDP, I'd give it a try. However, if you're paying OOP, I'd look elsewhere because it is expensive.

We're OOP, but we use the DDE card. I don't mind it being expensive, as long as its good. Our normal favorites are CG, V&A's, Jiko, AP...so we like to have something comparable as far as quality food. We avoided Alfredo's like the plague and figured we'd give TI a shot since its supposed to be new and improved. Maybe we'll pop in there for a lunch to test the waters instead.

Tutto Italia is a great 1 TS credit dining plan restaurant; however, if I would have paid for it out of pocket I would have left the restaurant in tears!

We were on the dining plan this pas April and I told DW how expensive the menu was. I said the same thing "$24 for spaghetti and meatballs!!!" :faint:

Alfredo's was bad, and so is Tutto! It's so grossly overpriced, loud, subpar food and not great service.

This is why we're renting a car in June. We're going down on a conference rate so couldn't get the DDP. As we'll be paying OOP, I'd much rather hit a reasonably priced chain like Olive Garden than pay exorbitant prices for mediocre food on property. I'm sorry, and I know I'll get flamed, but unless you're on the DDP or free dining, the vast majority of WDW food is not at all worth the price. It's just yucky, overcooked, overpriced mush. I read all these reviews here, and then took my family to these restaurants telling them how great the reviews were, and they were like, "This is good food? I don't think so." To have the food be average to below average — and then receive a giant bill for it — is more than I can take. I'm afraid it would cut in on the…magic.

You are correct and in our opinion, we've had better food at the Olive Garden than at Alfredo's/Tutto Italia. It is so overpriced and pretentious there! I come from an Italian restaurant family which has won awards for our family's cooking and so we try all restaurants - we've eaten everywhere on Disney property multiple times except for a few signatures, and there are some very good ones, and some very bad ones, Tutto Italia is one that is Olive Garden quality for exhorbitant prices!

It shouldn't matter if it's OOP or DP either - it bothers me that people are ok to go there because they are on the DP and aren't actually paying for it. Overpriced is overpriced - we've paid cash with DDE and used DP, and we felt ripped off both times! If people continue to eat there, then it will stay the way it is. If people stop frequenting here and some of the other overpriced and sub-par restaurants on property, such as Chefs de France, then that might actually send a message to them since those restaurants aren't owned by Disney.

We actually ate there this past April and my wife and I both loved it. The waiter was OK, but the food was delicious. It was not our favorite, and it was a little pricey. We weren't on the DDP, but it was lunch so it wasn't too bad. I am Italian and my family operates an Italian Restaurant so I am pretty picky when it comes to Italian food. The reviews from Tutto remind me of the reviews from Alfredos, some rave reviews followed by scathing ones. We usually go at very slow times of the year so maybe that has something to do with it. I do miss Alfredo's fettuccini though. We didn’t read the reviews when we made a reservation on our honeymoon in 2005 and it was the best meal we had at DW. LeCellier was a close second, but we probably would not have eaten there had we read the reviews first. The fettuccini actually tasted like the fettuccini we had at one of the more popular restaurants in Rome. I was impressed. For some reason, seems like consistency has been an issue with both Tutto and Alfredo’s. Maybe our experience was the exception, but we really liked it. I am sorry to hear the OP had a bad experience. Nothing can ruin your day faster than a bad meal coupled with bad service..especially an overly expensive bad meal.

This is why I rarely eat Italian in a restaurant, WDW or otherwise. I refuse to pay $20+ for a plate of noodles! I can make it at home cheaply and it usually tastes better too.

I agree. I looked over the menu, considered a family style pasta dinner, and promptly made another dinner choice. It does seem terribly overpriced. But, with DDP, pricing at all restaurants seems just wacky to me. Last year, we paid $10 out of pocket for a Coral Reef Surf & Turf appetizer that wasn't worth $3. It was as if the restaurant had designed it to be cheap in order to meet the DDP appetizer requirement. Perhaps now that appetizers aren't included in DDP, they'll improve. But, it almost doesn't pay to not do DDP anymore because WDW restaurant pricing no longer seems to bear any relationship to reality.
