Tutoring: Fair $ ?

What is a fair price to pay hourly for a tutor in a high school honors English class?

The tutor would be a professionally certified teacher with a BA in English, an MA in English Education, and a EdS in Education. I've looked around and seen rates ranging from $25 to $60.

My next door neighber charges $35 an hour. She does not have a post-graduate degree in what she tutors.

I usually pay $50.00. I pay a college student $25.00 and a tutroing specialist $65.00. I am in Miami, Fl.

Around here, tutors with those credentials get at least $40.00 per hour.

I paid $40 for a math tutor for DS 5 years ago (4th going into 5th grade at the time). This summer I paid $30 for my other DS. It was a different person and this was her first time tutoring.

I paid $60 hour for a math tutor for dd 4 years ago here in CT with similar credentials.

My dd's math tutor charges $40.00 for an hour. She is a Special Ed teacher, not sure of her designations.
Any less than that I would be going hmmm....

Above all dd's tutor is wonderful and my dd gets helped a great deal so I think that is part of it as well.

We pay $30 per hour at her house. She would charge $40 if she came to our house. She has a masters.

I think that it really depends on where you live. Here in the midwest I would expect to pay $40/hour. If you are on the east coast, I would expect to spend more towards $60/hour.

I've only hired a tutor once but my DD takes private music lessons. I've never had any teacher not tell me their price up front.

I would not expect to pay any less than $40/hour for HS English. These teachers are in demand for SAT prep and tutoring.
