Tusker House and a Birthday

So we are going to be at AK for my son's 12th birthday and we have an ADR at Tusker House.
We looked at the price of getting a cake and realized our budget doesn't allow it... (plus my daughter is GF so we would need a GF cake)
but we did notice that our meal (on the dining plan) includes dessert.
If we let our server know that it is my son's birthday - do you think they will do something to help us celebrate? Possibly write "happy birthday" on the plate that his dessert is on? (with a candle...though I am prepared to bring my own candle just in case)
Does anyone know if they would accommodate this?
(Oh, and sorry if this has already been asked, I did a search before posting but could not find anything)

Tusker House is a buffet so there is not a dessert plate that is served to your table. You help yourself to dessert at the buffet. When we were there for my DD's Birthday, the server brought over a mini cupcake and card signed from the characters.

Ah right! Honestly skipped my mind about tusker house being a buffet
Thanks for the info :)

No place has to do anything.. it is very hit and miss... but they mayl bring out a cupcake.. some will make a big deal most will not and some will say here is your cupcake....2 years ago we were there for my Sons Birthday and the only place that made a big deal and it was big... believe it or not was Pecos' Bills.... TS places did nothing... 3 years ago every TS place gave him a cupcake.... You could use some of your snack credits go to the Boardwalk bakery without him knowing and get something the night before and celebrate in your room... Other than that the advice is expect nothing... there are hundreds at Disney celebrating someone's Birthday on any given day that does not make each person less special it just means servers can not cater to everyone... and it may even be their Birthday as well...

If you really want to make sure his birthday is acknowledged there I highly suggest planning something yourself. It's very hit or miss as to whether or not they will do anything for a guest's birthday. It's not only the restaurant but up to the actual CM at the time. They do offer podium cakes at all Disney restaurants for about $23 if you want to have a cake.

Thanks for the suggestion of the boardwalk bakery, I will take a look at this.

If your son wears his Happy Birthday button throughout his visit he will get many HB wishes from castmembers, but this is the extent of the recognition he will be guaranteed.

Beyond that it will depend on the restaurant and your server because Disney has no official policy for recognizing special events. With thousands of visitors celebrating a special event every day (e.g. birthday, anniversary, wedding, graduation, first visit, family reunion, life changing event) it's not possible for Disney to recognize everyone's special event. At some restaurants we've gotten complimentary desserts, beverages, confetti, a signed card and at others absolutely no acknowledgement at all. If recognizing his birthday is important, you will need to plan and pay for something yourself.

Because Tusker House is a buffet you'll automatically have a selection of desserts so you might want to plan a celebration at a different TS restaurant. The TS restaurants have a podium cake available, but there are additional places with much better desserts. A PP mentioned the Boardwalk Bakery. Also, Amorette's Patisserie in Disney Springs has mini cakes that are beautiful and delicious. Each of the TS restaurants in the MK have a special dessert that can be ordered in advance if you have reservations at any of them.

Thank you for the information. I figured as much (with all the other birthdays, etc...) that they wouldn't do much or be able to do much but I was just curious. (never hurts to ask LOL)
I still plan to have our own little celebration but just wanted to see if something could be arranged at the restaurant.

Much appreciated for the tips (bakeries, etc...) we will figure something out :)
