I work at a school and 'tis the season for getting gift cards. Some of those that I know I would never use, I trade them in to cardpool for cash. I get some Amazon ones, which I would personally use, but I'm trying to do anything I can to put money towards the next Disney trip. Any creative ideas on how to trade in Amazon cards for Disney cards? Thanks!

Don't have ideas on trading them, but you could use them to buy what you need on Amazon, and then put cash you would have spent on those items towards your Disney fund, or use that cash to buy discounted Disney cards at BJs/Sam's or Target Red Card if you do any of those, to save more money!

You can use Amazon GCs to pur hase 3rd party GCs sold on Amazon. Some useful ones would include Starbucks (there's one in every park), Landry's (Rainforest Cafe, T-rex, Yak & Yeti), Southwest Airlines and Hotels.com (cannot be used for all hotels on the website, so make sure that you know their terms before you buy).

You can use an Amazon GC to purchase certain grocery store GCs (Safeway, Albertsons and Whole Foods). Or you can order Amazon Prime groceries to be delivered to your hotel.

However, I don't know how to use an Amazon GC to pay for tickets, packages or onsite dining (other than Starbucks and Landry restaurants).

Amazon gift cards can be loaded to your Amazon account and used to buy 3rd party gift cards (except for Visa gift cards). As @Marionnette noted, Amazon sells Safeway and Albertsons gift cards. If you have them nearby, Safeway’s (and probably Albertson’s — same company) POS system allows you to use their gift cards to purchase 3rd party gift cards from their Gift Card Mall racks, including Disney gift cards. However, your particular store may have their own policy to disallow such transactions; but their system is coded to accept it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will search a bit deeper on Amazon to learn what 3rd partu gift cards I might be able to buy which would in turn allow me to purchase a Disney gift card. A little research to do. Thanks!

I would double check on their policy regarding buying other gift cards with an Amazon gift card. Here's a quote from their site :

"There are certain restrictions with Amazon.com Gift Cards, such as not being able to purchase gift cards using a gift card"

I do this. Buy household goods on Amazon and then transfer that amount of money from my household account to my vacation fund.

That's definitely the case for Amazon gift cards and the Visa/MC/etc prepaid cards, however, buying 3rd party gift cards seems to work. When I checkout it tries to use my Amazon GC balance to pay for GC's just like I was buying anything else. And several others have reported being able to as well.

Yep, I just used some gcs to buy a Southwest card. I think the other restriction is you can't buy e-cards using a gift card.

So I guess the question is, which of these cards/ecards could be used to buy Disney cards.

The Safeway and Albertson's GCs could be used to purchase Disney GCs in their stores IF the store will permit it. As with all of the GC -> GC purchases, it can vary widely from one location to another. We can tell you what is possible. We can''t offer you a guarantee that it will work for you. I suggest trying it with a small amount and testing it on your own.

Thanks again. We don't have those stores in our areas. I'm holding on to everything through February, so I'll figure out the best strategy. Got some great ones so far!

I like to search Disney on Amazon and see what comes up. While I'm not spending it directly on the trip, I can use it to get an outfit, or souvenir. Thus freeing up money for the trip later.

You could use the Amazon GCs to buy things you need for the trip (or things that aren't necessities but that may make the trip more pleasant). Such as: water bottles/hydration packs, cooling towels, rain ponchos, sunscreen, a new swimsuit, new shoes, etc.
Then put the amount you would have spent on those things towards buying Disney GCs. Amazon sells so many things that even if you don't regularly shop there, I'm sure you can find something useful to use the GCs on.
