We were originally planning to take our first Disney trip and camp at FW in October for my 40th birthday. We changed our plans so we could take advantage of the 4 day Dream Pass for FL residents and ended up taking our first trip last week. I'm not complaining though :) We had an awesome week and loved camping at FW so much that once we got home we made ressies for my birthday weekend too! We aren't planning to go to the parks this time around, but I'd love to do something fun in Downtown Disney. We've never been there so I'm not really sure what there is to do besides shop and go to Disney Quest. Are there any must-see or must-do places that we shouldn't miss? Any ideas on a great way to ring in a new decade at Downtown Disney or at FW?

What fun!
I used to play at Pleasure Island, but that has changed/closed - some restaurants are there but I haven't heard amazing reviews. I am not "in the know" for that area anymore -
However Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk is fun. The last time I was there they had dueling piano players and they were funny. Plus the Boardwalk itself is a nice area. That might be a good night!

Like SymbaKy said it has changed - basically does not exist anymore. Eat, shop, do a movie, Disneyquest, & the Cirque Du Soleil. T-Rex is a new & interesting place to eat. It is owned by Rainforest, but I like some of the food better.

Downtown Disney used to have strolling entertainment like magicians, jugglers, & comedians, but either I have been missing them or they don't do it as much anymore, or stopped completely.

I agree you may want to try the Boardwalk.

go up in the hot air balloon. i think it would be neat at night. not for me of course, as i am afraid of heights.. ;)

Have you ever been to the Hoop Dee Doo Review?

That's where I celebrated my 40th birthday!

And, my 45th birthday!

And, the Good Lord willing, I will celebrate my 50th birthday there, too!

Hey, you're a camper now.

Embrace it!

When I turn 40 :rolleyes1

I think Cirque du Soleil tickets would be a nice way to celebrate.

Well, it was bound to happen one day.

I'm sure with Frank it happens everyday.

But, I am going to have to 100% disagree with Denise here.

Cirque du Soleil is not for campers.

Maybe cabin people.

But, not campers.

Dudes in tights?

Really?

Shoot me now!

I might possibly see this show if they had a lion tamer, or a trained elephant or something.

But, it's just dudes in tights!

How much would tickets to the Circus and dinner cost vs. a delicious meal and show at the HDDR.

HDDR all the way!

I think you just channeled my husband's "voice" in your post!!!:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Here comes the flaming(in more ways than one)...but Im as REAL a man as they come, and I LOVE Cirque!!!!! Ive never been to a live show, and, honestly never will because if Im shelling out that much money....someone HAS to be bleeding or at least set on fire by the end of the show....but Ive seen just about every performance on dvd....yeah, the men in tights aint my thing either...but on the flip side....theres WOMEN in tights too....and that,...well.....thats just good, all American fun, there!!!!

I am celebrating my 60th birthday at FW this summer:banana: We have FL resident season passes and are "blocked out" during this time so DW and DD's are treating me to a Petty "ride along"! I am psyched! :cool1: We love the parks but just going to FW and just relaxing will be fine with us!

hot air balloon ride - I seriously considered it but, like you, I am deathly afraid of heights. I rode Mission:Space on our last visit and spent the whole ride taking deep breaths and telling myself that I hadn't actually left Earth LOL

Cirque - I thought about that one too, but wasn't sure hubby would want to shell out the dough for men in tights :)

HDDR - Now that's an idea I hadn't thought of *doh!* We skipped that on our last visit because we were so busy doing the park thing. About how long does the show last?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

When are you going to be there in Oct? I am celebrating my 60th there, (have celebrated the last 5 there). I am having a BIG party at my site, if you are going to be there Halloween weekend you are welcome to join us. There will be a lot of Dis Fiends there.

Damn it! I better go change. Can I at least still keep the green thong?

No.

Absolutely not!

Rog- I would tell you that you must turn in your man card, but you obviously don't have one!

J/K

I actually have heard nothing but rave reviews about Cirque, and I know some manly men who have seen it.

But that doesn't mean that it's right.

I probably will go and see it one of these days.

But, if I had to pick between Cirque or HDDR, I would pick HDDR 100 out of 100 times.

Except for the ones that watch "Glee" :flower3:

What is Glee?

J/K, I have three teenage daughters.

I have heard of Glee.

But, this is a show for girls and moms, not men. Right?

Sounds like you are thinking logically here.

Good job.

If someone lets them know when you are being seated:smickey: at HDDR that it's your birthday, you might even get to be up on stage. I would definitely do the HDDR.

I am chiming in a little late ( I was looking for a diffent post) I am also celebrating my 40th at the Fort! I was unsure what I wanted to do for my birthday until we went down for our Anniversary and saw our first shuttle launch, then it hit me I want to celebrate with my family and friends at the Fort and see the " last" shuttle launch.( it's not the last launch now but still awesome:thumbsup2) I have 4 children and 1 is in the Marines so it's up to uncle Sam if my dream comes true:confused3. I have started planning movies and decorations. We had a family reunion at the Fort about 3 years ago and just hung out, cooked out :cloud9:and enjoyed our time together. It also fell on my Birthday and we all went to MNSSHP. You will be there around Halloween so you could decorate your site as a Birthday/ Halloween theme. We are also going to MNSSHP and decided everyone is dressing as 80's pop stars:rotfl2:. I informed my husband he will be MC Hammer :lmao:( he was expecting Phil Collins) I would suggest HDDR or any restraunt that is your favorite ( we are doing Ohana because all the kids love it and it won't break the bank paying for all of them. But I am just as happy hanging out at the Fort. We found the website to rent the 5TH on the boards so everyone will be toether ( we have a MH but not enough room for 10 people) Have a great Birthday! (I am also in the Panhandle....Pensacola)

I will be celebrating my 40th birthday at the fort this year over Halloween weekend. I will be going to MNSSHP on the 29th and going to the Food and Wine Festival on Saturday. I am so excited and cannot wait! :yay:
