Turning 30 with the Mouse - 05/12/09 update

More pretty pics! I'm going to miss those. I'm telling ya, your pic of the Tonga Toast is causing me to have major cravings. I'm in the midst of planning our December trip, and I'm definitely going to have to work a Kona breakfast in sometime while we're there.

Pssst... not my photo of the Tonga Toast - I was waaaaay too busy eating the thing to think to take a pic so I had to swipe one off of google. But keep that quiet - k?

And Tonga Toast is a must for all future trips now. :thumbsup2 Worth each and every bite.

And speaking of trips - I've decided that I will take a 2010 trip. I was thinking this week-end to go in Jan and sign up for the 1/2 marathon.... ummmmm.... yeah. I should have had this thought a couple of months ago - huh? All booked. You can still book for the 1/2 + full marathon but I'm not crazy :scared: (or at least I pretend that I'm not!) so I'm going for a vacation for 2010 and then will sign-up for the 2011 1/2 marathon. (Now that I know you must sign-up ASAP before it's full)

So.. decisions.. decisions... When in 2010 should I go? I want it to be "off" season but it can't interfere with tax season (late Feb - April 15 and late Aug - Oct 15) so I was thinking late Jan or mid Feb before major crowds or late Oct. I kind of want to go late Oct so that I can go to MNSHP - my fav party - but I'm not certain that I want to wait that long before my next Disney fix. What do you think?

Great TR's...I didn't get much work done today because of them!

I've done solo at Disneyland (last fall) and am doing Disney World in late July this year. I'm lucky to have parents who have DVC, and when Mom offers I'd be insane to pass! Plus Disney's such a great vacation if you can totally get into it.

Your trips pretty much mirrored how I do things. It's nice to have that freedom, you can know what you want and go do it.

At Disneyland, a friend in LA visited later in my trip for a day (bringing her friend I didn't know with her), and it was such a change from when I'm on my own and free to do as I pleased. I know that sounds antisocial, and I had a lot of fun with my friend, but it was just something I noticed. You'd be amazed how much you can see when you can be a "single rider", walk fast, and just do what you want.

Waiting in line wasn't as bad as I anticipated either.

Glad to see others having fun solo! Also, thanks for the TR just because it'll help me plan out my trip and get stuff in.

Welcome to my TR! I'm glad to have another solo DISer on here! :goodvibes I totally get how you feel when your friend joined you. I love having people with me on trips - and there are certain moments on solo trips that I wish that there was someone with me - but if you are a park commando person (as I am) you can get sooooo much done solo and do things that you simply can't if there is someone with you. That can be just as nice as having someone with you. I know that my link to my 2007 Disneyland TR was posted on here by someone. I have a 2007 DL TR and a 2006 WDW TR on here but I never kept links to them. The 2007 DL trip had been my first trip to DL and a work friend, who had never been to Disney before in her life, suddenly decided to join my trip. I was actually excited for her to come - I thought that she was pretty cool. Unfortunately I learned the hard way to not let A) someone who is not a close friend B) someone who is not into Disney join you on your vacation. Sadly we are no longer friends. I think she was using me to split hotel costs so that she could really see a former friend in LA that is in the music biz and could have gotten her into some hot LA VIP places. Upon meeting up at LAX she informed me that her friend suddenly got called out to Atlanta. So, she was "stuck" going to Disneyland with me. At that time I didn't realize she was just using me like that - I had assumed that she really wanted to go to DL and see Disney. If you read my DL TR you can see what a downer she was on my trip. I wound up taking out her photos. Before my final update to the TR we had a fall-out. Kind of happens when she's not really wanting to get around to paying you the 500 bucks she owes you (which she finally did) and you realize that she was just using you to spilt hotel costs and never really wanted to be part of your vacation in the first place. :rolleyes1 So in that TR I had been trying real hard to not sound negative about her, even though she put a damper on my trip, but when the final blow-up happened I took off her pic and just finally let my displeasure known! :rotfl:

Soooo.. with that said. I'm planning to go back to DL for a much better trip as soon as they are done with California Adventure and am looking forward to it. I want good memories of Disneyland. WDW will always be my love but I do appreciate Disneyland and I'm glad to have a Disneyland vet over here reading up on my WDW TR.

AND speaking my TR... I finally have pic's for the last day uploaded in Photobucket and that could mean an update as soon as tomorrow.... I know that NateandLogan'sDad will love that bit of news. :teeth:

But, anyone new to this TR will have noticed that I don't have any pic's of me on here. Anyone that has been following this TR might be surprised by that news since you know that I had pic's posted. I removed them for personal reasons after something happened on this message board. Honestly, I don't care about having pic's of me up - I've had enough of them posted on here over the last few years so I will repost some of my pics' from this past trip. It would be too much trouble to go back to each post to repost them so they will be in this post. However, I will not be reposting any pic's of my family.

Without further ado (since when I read pple's TR I like to know what they look like so that I can have a visualization when I read their report)

"AND speaking my TR... I finally have pic's for the last day uploaded in Photobucket and that could mean an update as soon as tomorrow.... I know that NateandLogan'sDad will love that bit of news. "

That is good news :cool1: But, at the same time it's not so good news. This is the only TR I've actually followed from start to finish and I'm not sure I want to see it end. I don't have a clue of what may have happened on this board to make you take the pics down but I'm sorry to hear that some people would push you to go that far, I guess just because WDW is the happiest place on earth doesn't mean the boards will always reflect it. Keep the posts coming and the spirits high. (And hurry the heck up will ya!?!?! I've had to actually work that last couple of weeks!!!!!!)

I think I'm ready for the finally and will have to read it from the begining to really take it all in. Thanks for keeping it so entertaining!

It's my last day. :sad1:
I still drag myself out of bed at 5:30.... and no, it wasn't to get on an airplane. Are you crazy?!? There's still park time!

I quickly dress and pack up all of my junk- uh, stuff and realize that Houston, I have a serious problem.

I can't get all of that to fit.

uh-uh. Not happening. There will have to be a sacrifice as that suitcase (extra-large suitcase, I might add) is not wanting to zip up.

Now for a sacrifice.. no time to see if I can ship something home. What will it be?.....

CIMG3597.jpg

Good-bye Mickey. You've been hanging out for days now waiting to either be eaten or taken home (I'd been leaning towards the taking home as I was having a hard time wanting to eat the little guy)

So, everything packed minus one molded white chocolate Mickey Mouse, and I'm off after hanging the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. I knew that Mousekeeping would be eagerly waiting to pounce on my room this day as I was marked as a check-out.

My breakfast had consisted of the remaining Cadbury chocolate digestives. Yeah, healthy - I know............ But yummy!!!

*sigh*

No wonder I gained 10 lbs on this trip.

Well, time to walk it off as I trek the mile to DHS for one last morning in a Disney theme park. (Does anyone know how far the walk really is from The Boardwalk to DHS? I'm curious to know)

I arrive to the Studios around 7:15 am for a 8:00 EMH. I was a bit surprised by how many people were already there. I join a line at the turnstiles and chat with the family standing in front of me. Based solely upon observation they're:

A) Canadians (the Canadian flag on one of their back-packs was a good tip-off)
B) Staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (they were eating breakfast from packages marked from the Mara.)

It was their first trip to Disney so I attempt to be helpful, as always, and give them some tips about things such as Toy Story Mania (as in - you better go now to either jump in the queue or grab a FP or you can wipe that off of your list for the day.)

CM's began passing out a tip guide that had a FP for the 1st LMA show printed on it. Too bad that I wasn't going to be in the park that late, I've yet to see that thing. (Must put it on the list for next trip)

We were let in for rope drop and it was pretty packed. Finally rope drop and we're off! At Sunset the crowd splits: half to TSM and the other half down Sunset.

(I was in the half down Sunset in case you don't recall my opinion of TSM.)

We begin to reach the end of Sunset and the crowd is dividing once again - but in my favor. I'm finally at the very front of the rushing crowd as most people veer off towards RnR while I trek on towards

CIMG4102.jpg

I grab a FP for ToT for later and then jump into the non-existent stand-by line. I managed to nab what I thought was a pretty cool perspective of the tower:

CIMG4104.jpg

I love the music in the queue; not just that it's '40's music but that they give it that canned old timey feeling. It's rather haunting. Love it, love it, love it! Disney did great with the ToT theming.

I walked directly into the first library, no waiting, and was one of the first at the elevator once the boiler room doors opened. I've posted this pic earlier in the report - but here is when it was actually taken:

CIMG4060.jpg

I was quite proud of myself for actually capturing that with a little point and shoot camera. (RIP my little camera. It had to go when the new iMac computer came. It was too old and while I had software for Mac's for it; the software was too old. Oh, well, time to upgrade it!)

On this trip to the Twilight Zone, I experienced a drop sequence that I had never experienced before: The elevator went up before it plummeted down on that very first drop and then we dropped down far enough to the bottom to see the exit elevator doors and the images of the ghost waving before being pulled back up for another drop.

Hmmmm.... don't know. Nice to experience a new drop, though.

It's 8:15 am and I'm off of ToT and rushing over to RnR which was already at a 30 min wait. Via the Singles line I walked straight into the pre-show (see? A perk for being solo!) Chris was actually in the pre-show! I was shocked! (If I wasn't trying to watch my image count for all of the photos that I plan to post - I'd put the fainting smiley right here). "Chris" is the guy (or sometimes girl) that goes into the Studio to get the guitar for Steve Tyler. He's been MIA for years now. But he was here this morning. (Pretend that there is a woo-hoo smiley right here)

After taking the fastest limo in the world to LA for an Aerosmith concert, I suddenly found myself back in central Florida and I went off to explore the park one last time:

CIMG4061.jpg

I finally realized that you can get a straight shot of ToT from the RnR courtyard - where have I been??? (picture the confused smily right here)

I finally stop under the hat when I spy to my two little eyes:

Chip and Dale!!!! Woo-hoo!

Of course you better believe that I was in that line!!!! Yeah, the pic's turned out horrid but I had one last photo-op with my chipmunks! Woo-hoo!

After one last ride through the Twilight Zone on the Tower of Terror, I slowly began my sad little trek back to the front of the park. I stopped off to purchase the Photopass CD (oh-my-gosh! Did that take forever to purchase!!!) and then began the sad little trek back to the Boardwalk Inn.

Somewhere along the way, while being completely and utterly miserable that my vacation was over, I had the grand idea of eating at Spoodles for breakfast! So, instead of going up to my room (Of which I was certain that Mousekeeping was waiting outside the door, fresh linens in hand, just waiting for that "Do Not Disturb" sign to be removed so that they may enter and attack my room in preparation for the next guest to visit it that night. Remember how I said that I was going to work out a deal with Disney in order to pay them a monthly rent (much cheaper than nightly hotel cost) in order to live there??? Yeah, still working on that one)

Oh well, back to more important thoughts: I had enough time for breakfast at Spoodles - didn't I?

Well, I hoped that I did. If not, I'd just miss my ride back to MCO and miss my flight. Oh well. I could stay another night at the Boardwalk. I don't mind... seriously....

They were able to squeeze me in at Spoodles - barely. It was quite packed. Everyone wanted to eat there that morning - quite the contrast to my last breakfast there. I was finally seated and I informed my waiter that I was in a rush. I had some concerns that my room key was about to become inactivated and therefore leaving my luggage trapped inside of my room upstairs.

I quickly scarfed down some yummy French Toast and raced back upstairs to enter my room just as the clock officially strikes check-out time. I take a bite of my Mickey ear (bye-bye Mickey, sorry that you can't come home with me), toss him in the trash, grab my ultra-heavy suitcase that I can barley move and begin the long and sad trek down the endless corridor towards the elevator bank.

Magical Express comes all too fast and they're playing the stupid leaving WDW video. Do they have to rub it in that your vacation is over? Can I start tossing things at the television screen? I don't want to watch this! Stupid leaving WDW video!!! (picture the mad smiley right here)

I arrive at MCO and, not to my surprise, have to pay $50.00 in order to get my suitcase home with me. Told you that it was packed! I should know, I'd been lugging it around forever.

I was going to have to lug that thing up stairs once I arrived home.

Fun... fun.... fun...
(please note the sarcasm in those "funs")

I make my way through TSA, they never give me trouble - I look innocent... which is a good thing since I am! I am, I tell ya!

Stop it.

That's not nice.

I sit in a crowded waiting room for what seemed like hours. OK, if I'm going to have to leave Disney than I want to be home. Now. I don't want this waiting at an airport. Remember - I'm petrified of flying. So, my nerves are working up a storm and I'm getting seriously restless. I don't want to get on that plane, I'm too darn worried that it's going to crash.

Suddenly an alarm beings to go off in the airport. Don't worry, we don't have to leave the terminal - nothing too serious but I'm forced to listen to this "Whoooop - Whooooop" followed by a programed voice coming over the PA instructing that an alarm has been activated, to remain calm, and it's being looked into... then back to the "Whoooop - Whoooop" followed by the recording followed by more "Whoops" followed by the recording followed by the "Whooop"....

... and I'm edgy b/c I'm about to have to get on an airplane and the "Whooops" are loud and annoying the crap out of me......

and then there is this kid.

This little girl, probably around six or so, is on the row of seats behind me - like the back of my seat and the back of her seat butt into each other. Obviously the kid is restless and wanting to play. She's plopping down onto her seat, jumping into her seat, attacking her seat... all which disturb me... giggling and screaming. Loudly. Over and over and over and over...

and the "Whooop- Whooop" is still going on and I'm still edgy due to my impending flight and the shrill scream, giggle, ram into the seat, scream, "Whoop-Whoop", giggle, plop!, scream, "Whoop-Whoop, ram, scream, "Whoop-Whoop", giggle....

.. and I was about to lose it. I whipped around in my seat and gave her a look. I don't exactly know what kind of look I gave her but her face froze in the middle of a giggle and it turned from the expression of a smile into that of horror. She stood up, turned around, sat down properly in her seat and I didn't hear another peep out of her until boarding time.

And I never had to say a word.

Her mother was clueless.

Finally we boarded. (picture the banana smiley here)

Up in the air I was sad. I had no idea for when I would next return but now, as of today, I've made a decision.

(picture lots of bananas smilies here with a lot of whoo-hoo smilies)

I'm planning for a Oct 2010 trip - after tax season ends. I love Halloween and want to go back to another MNSSHP. However, I mentioned this to a co-worker today and she brought up that end of Oct is usually when the firm trip is (the firm trip is every other year - not every year). We've already been told that it will be another cruise to the Bahamas in 2010 and I'd be an idiot to pass up a free cruise! So, I'm going to have to wait until more info for exactly when in 2010 they'll book the cruise before I set my Disney dates. But, I'm planning a Oct 2010 WDW trip to the Boardwalk Inn. I'm now completely and utterly spoiled and must stay there. I also plan to go back in Jan 2011 and do the Disney 1/2 marathon (picture the banana smiley here). So.. two WDW trip in the plan! Soooo excited!

Thank you to all of you that stuck out my TR. I'm sorry that some of those updates took a little long in coming, there were periods of time when I was just too busy to update. If any of you that have been posting on here go to WDW and do a TR - please PM me a link to your TR as I would love to read it!

Great end to the TR. You've inspired me to take more pictures when I go, I'm normally not that big of a picture taker. You've got obvious talent there, the pics aren't super blurry or anything! Cute pics of you too, one of these days I may post the pic of me in my Tigger Santa hat (Luckily I got one in 2006, I didn't see them in DL when I went last october).

My digital camera's 7 years old so it's due to be replaced anyways, and I like buying new tech toys :) Now to have the "higher optical zoom" vs. "tiny" debate....

It's good you got to see the chipmunks again, though I have issues with Chip. When I was 12 he picked up my dad's butter knife off the table and threatened to stab him (honestly, my dad did deserve it!). I need to interact with all of the characters more, I kinda skipped that at DL (it's way easier to skip that there anyways). I may plan a character meal just because. I forgot how much fun I could have being sarcastic and real with the characters.

It does suck you had all those issues with that friend at DL, but good for you in not letting it get to you. I know how you must have been feeling, all that uncertainty with what your friend was gonna do would drive me nuts...I like to have a good idea of what that day's basic plan was, and she would just screw that up. I like spontaneity, but she was just annoying.

2010 will be fun for you! I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm sure mom and dad will have DVC points if I want (lucky, I know). The downside to that is having to hear the "When you have kids we can get a Treehouse Villa" comments from my mom haha. Luckily she's not too obnoxious about it.

I'm sure I'll end up somewhere Disney in 2010, we'll see.

Not only was I going to sub, but this is the first time I've ever told the TR writer that I was subbing. And then I see (I was trying not to read ahead!) that you're done. :(

For the record, I absolutely LOVE being 30 and so does my husband. We'll both be 31 when we go in September. By ourselves. Oh, and we've talked everyone we know into giving Disney-as-adults-without-kids a shot.

I've always wanted to stay at Boardwalk since I was a CM and used to go swing dancing there every Tuesday (though I could be talked into Beach Club), DH would stay at the AKL if we could afford it, but we're booked at POFQ. But at least this way we get to go!

First off, thanks for the updates, I'm glad your style of writing hasn't changed from start to finish, even when the breaks in between posts took a little while. I've never read a whole trip report from beginning to end (except for scrolling through pics maybe) until this one, and I'm very glad I did. To this I say :worship:

Like one of the PP's said, this report inspired me to try to take better pics on our next trip and try to do my first TR when we get back. I tried doing the 2 sec delay on my camera (like you said you used to get most of your pics) but it didn't seem to do the trick. I've since learned SOOOO much about my camera and taking digital pics in general and it all started here. To that I say :thanks:

And last but not least, I know you have told yourself time and time again that you're not crazy, but have you ever thought of talking to a professional? Just asking :lmao:

Thank you for keeping us entertained popcorn:: and for pointing out some things some of us never get to see (Lights at Christmas) or some of the things we never got the time to stop and really take in. Feel free to stop back and add an update if you remember something else in the future, and I am already looking forward to next years TR.

Great trip Report, Dolce! :thumbsup2 I really felt like I was there, seeing the sights along with you, and your photos are amazing. I enjoyed every minute of reading this and I'm sad to see it end.

My only mistake with the pictures – I took too many. I was always behind the camera. I need to work on a better balance so that I enjoy everything while there. The camera that I used was the Casio Exilim and I loved it. It was a few years old and the only reason I got rid of it was because I bought a new computer and the software was too old to be compatible with the new computer. I do plan to purchase a new one soon:

http://exilim.casio.com/products_exfc100.shtml

I didn’t see a Tigger Santa Hat at WDW this year either. I had wanted the Minnie Santa hat but those were gone by the time that I arrived to the world and the Mickey’s were almost gone. Very popular hats.

Have fun with the characters! Sometimes I feel stupid but sometimes the character is totally into it and it’s a lot of fun!

I will take that as a huge compliment! Thank you!!

That is the biggest misconception; that WDW is just for kids. It’s soooo not. As I stated in my report, this had been my first time at a Deluxe and I’ve wanted to stay at the Boardwalk for years but it is soooo darn expensive. I just looked at current pricing for the Boardwalk for the number of days I want for next year (just for an idea) and it made me go :scared1:

POFQ is my favorite mod resort. If I can’t pull the money together for the Boardwalk (but I pray that I do!) then I’ll book at POFQ instead.

Hey! You’re implying that I really am crazy?!?!

*humph* :snooty:

When ever I need any psyco-babble I call up my sister who is currently half-way through her Masters Degree in Psychology (and debating for going back for her Doctorate or not). After a full 60 minute lecture from her I’m always left with the realization that psychologists (or those trained in that field) are completely screwed up and I’m perfectly normal and rational.

About your camera; I'm uncertain as to why that trick didn't work for you. Very interesting as I feel that it should have worked. I’m glad that you feel that your photography has vastly improved and I can’t wait for you to get back from your trip so that I may see all of the awesome pic’s that you will take! :thumbsup2

Great trip Report, Dolce! :thumbsup2 I really felt like I was there, seeing the sights along with you, and your photos are amazing. I enjoyed every minute of reading this and I'm sad to see it end.

yay! You're still here! Glad to see you around, friend.

...and all good things must come to an end.:sad1:

I know, I'm feeling a bit sad myself. It took me so long to write this thing and now it's like - that's it?

... I guess that I could always make-up more updates. :teeth:

I'm creative like that. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the camera suggestion...the high speed on that one looks pretty cool. I'll have to see it in person and compare size with other cameras...

That was the most well written, entertaining trip report I've read.

Thanks for the compliment! I’m glad that you enjoyed it.

Wow. Even Hollywood celebs like your TR, Dolce. Nice. Very nice. :thumbsup2

I know!! Look at me!! :p

Let me know what you wind up picking. I think that on my next trip I'll cave and lug around my DSLR as I would like to do some nice photography work.

I'm sad this is over. I have enjoyed reading it very much. I'm excited about your two future trips though! :)

Just finished your trip report and it was awesome! :cool1: and so entertaining:lmao: I am glad I had this holiday weekend because as someone else said my firm doesn't have a charge code either for reading WDW trip reports.

Can't wait to see you at the next DIS meet.

Me too! I'm kicking myself in the ... for deciding to go on vacation somewhere else than Disney this year. What was I thinking?!?! :rotfl:

Hey! Thanks! I completely understand about the not having a charge code for trip reports. (What's up with that?!?!? :confused3) Had there been one, this TR would have been over ages ago! ... but I guess that it didn't help that IT also has Photobucket blocked at work..... so... for some crazy reason my job actually wanted me to do work while there and not be gabbing online about Disney. :sad2: Silly bosses.

Oh! PM me for when the next DIS meet is. I'm not receiving those e-mails for some reason.
