In the back of my mind, I'm considering giving my niece and sister a trip. It would coincide with my niece graduating high school and turning 18. They don't have the money to do anything and my niece hasn't been anywhere. How does Disney treat it if on check-in day my niece is 17 but turns 18 a couple of days later?

Thanks!

I don't think they would treat it as anything different, since by 17 she is already considered an adult for tickets. Unless you want a birthday button or something, but then you just have to tell them you're celebrating a birthday at the front desk or at guest services to get a button.

Will the sister be 18 at check in? The lead person on the reservation has to be 18 years of age but other than that there should be no difference.

If it's just the two of them in the hotel room, it wouldn't matter if she turns 18. Rooms allow two adults. It's also possible that if she checks in at 17, she could stay in a room as a third person without being charged as an extra adult, but I'm not sure about that. Is that what you're wondering about?

We had almost the same scenario happen and they considered our daughter to be the age that she was when we checked in. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I was asking, in case we decide to instead of making it a mother/daughter trip and we include my BIL. Would she be considered an extra adult?

I wish you were my sister!

Thank you but they've had a difficult life and they always have financial troubles. No debt but have a very hard time making ends meet. This wouldn't be a dream of a lifetime trip by any means but a week in the World for them, would feel like winning the lottery.

No, she will not be considered an extra adult if your BIL is included. Disney goes by the age at check in, so even though she will turn 18 during the trip, she is considered 17 the entire time if that's her age upon arrival.

When you make your room arrangements, tell the Disney arranger that you will be celebrating an 18th Birthday. If you have no reason to reach out to the hotel before you arrive, simply tell the check in staff that you have a birthday girl. They will supply the Happy Birthday pin. I celebrated my 60th Birthday down there two years ago and it was the greatest experience. Besides the hundreds of birthday greetings, you get special desserts at some of the restaurants and there may be a special treat every once in a while. I got a sword, pirates eye patch, snow globe from bus drivers and shop workers and autographed birthday cards from the characters at the Crystal Palace and Chef Mickeys.. You never know what may happen. I wore my pin for the entire week I was down there. Last year my wife and I went down for our 41st Wedding Anniversary and got pins to wear the entire week as well. Just ask at the font desk and they can help you. You can also arrange for Mickey to call you in the morning to wish you a happy Birthday on your special day.

Thanks for the tips :)

Most of WDW (tickets, food, etc), 11 is considered an adult. i'm also not sure if she would be considered an adult for the room. I know she can't check in by herself but i'm not sure what age she would be considered a third adult in the room.

Considered an adult at Disney at 10, considered a third adult in a room at 18, if 18 at time of booking. Ticket prices are 9 & under and 10+. You can book a room at Disney by yourself at 18 too
