They were giving them away free at closing time in MK in Tomorrow Land the night we were on that side. Not sure if that is standard practice (we passed on them) but thought it was interesting, maybe they don't carry them over from one day to the next?

I think it's a general policy that anything opened is thrown out if not given away. They do it with trick or treating, they line up for the last people leaving at the exit to see who can carry a couple hundred extra pounds of candy instead of throwing it out.
Snack Credits are used to cover items generally in the $3 to $6 range. Looking at allears .net MK menu, Turkey Legs are listed as $10.50. They can make a QS meal for you with the Turkey Leg as entree, but they're not covered as a solo item by a Snack Credit.
I've honestly never had one at WDW I keep forgetting about them, when I finally remember the store closes up as I'm walking up to it every single trip.
We love them! We usually buy one to share because it's quite a bit of turkey for one person. They are tender and flavorful and is usually a quick afternoon snack for us. They now also sell pork shanks too (never tried it though).
We loved them! In our neck of the woods, you won't find them at fairs - but if you want sausage and peppers or zeppoli's , that we have. There is a lot of meat on those legs.
