Turkey Day Gang 2009 Thread #2

How in all that is holy did you get THAT offer? I would LOVE to do a cruise that inexpensively!

Karen

It's an interline rate (for airline employees). One of the perks of working for an airline! The really good deals like that only come out last minute and is considered a "pack & go" deal. I would love to take advantage of one one day! I'm sure a deal like this wouldn't have come out if I didn't already have a cruise booked!!

Lynn

But the 2 Cruises I quoted were for ANYONE -- I just happened to get last minute cruise emails yesterday. They were definitely "pack & go" deals, though, since they left this weekend! A colleague didn't believe me so I clicked through the link to price it out with taxes and it was something ridiculous - like $600 for 2 people for the week (for an inside guarantee, but for $600 who cares!) They will do anything to fill a ship because one a ship leaves that cabin is not only not earning them any money, the crew that is assigned to is is not making their tip money, too.

PS - I also have a hunch that if I booked a cruise that cheaply I'd open up my wallet once onboard because "in my mind" it costs a certain amount to vacation for a week, so the cruiseline would certainly get their money out of me!! :rotfl:

Well...I received a call from the health clinic at Mason's school...Mason was complaining of a stomach ache. Luckily, he did not have a fever!:thumbsup2 In any event, I picked him up so he could rest at home the rest of today. He said that he was the 4th child in his class to go to the clinic today and that 3 children did not come to school at all. :scared1: :scared1:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will be fine tomorrow. We have our nephew's bar mitzvah this weekend, I go back to work next week and then the cruise! :yay: :scared1: :woohoo:

Chun, LOVE the name tags!! :thumbsup2

Patrick & family, welcome! :goodvibes

We are home today -- and this time because of the weather, not illness! All area schools (and some businesses) closed today due to the nor'easter / tropical storm conditions, :umbrella: and our area tends to flood easily, making even the interstates impassible in some spots.

Fortunately, we still have power (lost it a few times briefly last night) and our house is not in a flood zone. However, I would not be surprised to hear of flooding issues in Norfolk or surrounding areas today/tomorrow.

DD10 is recovering, and my hands are raw from all the cleaning, disinfecting, etc. in my attempt to keep everyone else healthy. I'll take raw hands over illness any day...

Stay well (and dry, for those on the NE coast) today!

(I cannot figure out why my ticker says fewer days?? We fly Friday, but isn't that 8 days out?)

Ugh! Happy, healthy thoughts for Mason!!!

Hello,

Very late to the date. Have been prepping for the cruise for months and have only recently been lurking the disboards. Going on the T-Day cruise with missjudit and her family. Question on the FE group? What exactly is it? I signed up on the list (google doc)....hopefully I didn't purchase a plot of land in Kenya :rotfl: Anyway, first cruise for family so alot of this stuff is new....please be gentle.

Patrick Mondor

Oh, now you want in on the FE's... I've only been talking them up to you for a year and a half!!! Some people may not be able to exchange with you b/c they have sealed and shipped their FE gifts or have run out of supplies (as I have). You'll need an actual Fish Extender (which I offered to make you a year ago... but no, now you want in a week before I leave - my sewing room is closed for business!) You know I'm just giving you a hard time, I'll help you guys come up with something if you are really interested.

Are you sure Dory wants to participate? She definitely doesn't get all this Dis Board stuff! Plus, the idea of coming up with something creative was stressing her out big time.

Jen,

I love the post. I'm guessing this is someone you know well! LOL!

Karen

Very well! I've been friends with Dory since we were 5 and Pat grew up 2 houses away from me. And, our DS8s are best friends. We went through our pregnancies together as the boys are only a few months apart.

Alright. Done creating the name tags. Now just waiting for the Avery labels to arrive tomorrow and I can start printing. So far 130 names. Here's a sample:

Again, anyone not on the google FE List but wishes to have name tags for the cruise meet, please post your name here.

Thx and good nite.
Chun

That is so cool. Thanks so much for doing them.:dance3:

Judi

Chun - name tags are great

Good morning everyone! We're in single digits now!

We leave for our vacation one week from today!

Those of us going to MVMCP on Friday night need to decide where and when to meet if we're going to be doing that.

Question about the bracelets? I never ordered them. How long did they take to get for those of you who ordered?

Sherri,

Ours took less than 5 days. I bet if you ordered them today you would have them before you left. You can let them know that you would need them by next Wed. I got a very nice email from them after I ordered.

The only bad thing about the boards is that I havne't learn to navigate them that well and I get exhausted from reading trying to find info I am looking for so I will ask the experts:

1) Is anyone staying at a hotel near the port on Friday night before the cruise? I know quite a few offer free shuttle to the pier and you can leave your car at the hotel for the week. Good idea or more of a pain in butt?

I know a lot of you are traveling a long way to get here so not trying to put pressure on you to help me but any help would be nice.

We are staying at the Radisson at the Port which has a free shuttle and parking. We did this on our last cruise and it worked really well. No pain in the butt here.:rotfl: Also, they have a great pool for the kids. I know that there are other hotels near by that offer the same thing but I have only stayed at the Radisson.

2) FE........General run down of what everyone does? We live in the Central Florida Area so we have access to a lot of things Disney so quick idea list would be nice.

Hey there neighbor!!!! DW and I live in Gainesville!!!

Charlie

Lisa - Hope Mason feels better quickly.

I think all of you guys needs to put yourselves in bubbles for the next 8 days! Come on... we cannot have any of you getting sick now. Please, please, please feel better. Pixie dust and prayers to you all - Get better.

Judi- we are staying at the Radisson the night before as well.

Welcome to all the new Turkeys. You are just going to love everyone. What a great bunch of people.

Elsie

I'm helping the work day go faster by printing out the Bunco score sheets for the cruise. :woohoo:

Got some news on what the weather will be like on cruise day. It may not be good. The weather channel's website is forecasting 60% of storms with a high temp of 80. These forecasts this far out tend to change. Let's hope that is the case for cruise day. Hey at least it will be warm!!!

Charlie

I am doing up my gifts and I need to know if the following are boys or girls:

room 2582 - Grayson
room 2583 - Jordan
room 6570 - Mason
room 6582 - Mason
room 7008 - Taylor
For the LK4 family, are their two different Leah's (aage 14) in the two different rooms (5022 and 5520)

Thanks! Can't wait until next week.:cool1:

I updated the FE map to include the last few rooms additions.

At the top of the FE list, you will see 2 links -- one to the updated map (including the last few families who joined the FE) AND I also left the link to the original map.

FE room list

I know Wendy will include a map in the mini-nav onboard, too.
