Turf Club bar and grill- 10/5/08

My DH and I went there last night. We were going to attempt to see the new DVC models for the contemporary only to find out they don't do this from 5-7 on Sundays. Since we were so early for our reservation, we decided to sit up at the bar and have a couple of drinks and appetizer. I had the Magic Star cocktail and my DH had a Stella Artois. The Magic star was a lot of fun and tasted wonderful, and the glow cube was multicolored. I actually gave it to a little girl who thought it was the best thing in the world. I think I definitely made her night. We also started off with some of the mussels. I was not crazy about them, but my DH enjoyed them immensely.

At about 7:15 (a half hour before our reservation) we requested to be seated, and they told us it would only be a couple of mins and asked if we wanted outside or inside. We had originally decided inside, but then DH decided outside would be better. In about 5-10 mins we were seated on the back patio facing the lake. Nice view, but not so nice seats. Oh well...

DH ordered the Tomato and Goat cheese bisque as an appetizer and I will warn you, it is very thick, so plan to share it. Once you mix in the goat cheese to the tomato bisque it is very thick and it is served with some awesome toasted bread. DH and I loved it! I think it was my favorite part of the meal, and I am not a huge fan of goat cheese.

For our meal, DH decided to get the cheeseburger, and I decided to get the NY strip steak with blue cheese and demi glaze with mashed potatoes. The mashed taters were just ok, but the steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare, and the blue cheese and sauce were fantastic! DH loved his cheeseburger too. Said it was the best he had in a long time. I tasted the fries and they were very crisp and had a nice flavor to them.

I also sampled a Mint Julep with my meal that I was unable to finish for fear of falling off the boat back to OKW. Boy do they pack a punch!

Oh I nearly forgot the best part!!! The lava cake for dessert!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! You have to order it about 10 mins ahead of time, but it is completely worth the wait! Melt in your mouth good! Served with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. To die for!

The total bill of the dinner was $73 with DDE discount and gratuity. I think the bill for the bar was around $40 because DH had 3 stella's ($20) and an app, along with my magic star($10). This also included the gratuity because we have the DDE card.

I would highly recommend this place for dinner. We are even trying to figure out how to fit it in again! We are supposed to have dinner at Olivia's this week, and we might switch it out!!!

you said you sat at the bar? where is this located, do you mean the one out by the pool? Or did you mean the lounge area. There isn't a true bar at the Turf Club, right?

The bar/lounge area we sat in is right in front of the entrance to the Turf Club. They had a pool table, two sofas and several tables and chairs with a walk up bar area.

Thought it was nicely done and very nice place to sit and relax before dinner.

It's a nice lounge but the bar itself is just that "hole in the wall". They would LOVE to have seats at the bar and expand the bar area, but just outside the bar are several weight supporting columns that cannot be removed.

Thanks for the review ... we'll be staying at SSR starting tomorrow and we may just have to mosey on over to the Turf Club and give it a try.
