TurboTax v. TaxCut

Assuming you haven't used either one in the past, either one is fine. If you've used one of the programs in previous years, it's easier to stick with that program (although they each will convert tax data from the other's software, IIRC).

I use TurboTax, but I've heard equally good things about TaxCut.

I used both last year. I always use TurboTax but someone gave me a copy of their Tax Cut so I put my stuff in just to see the differences. I preferred TurboTax but for no special reason--probably just because I'm used to it. They are fairly equal in all respects, so I'd go for the cheaper one.

Just curious but I assume you got the same numbers (refund/payment) from both as well. I mean the obviously should be but just wondering if it were true.

As tot he OP I use Turbo Tax and have always liked....have been using it since 2000 I believe. I would just choose which ever one is cheaper where you are buying it. This year for 19.99 at Wal-Mart you could get Taxcut Fed and State together. At least when I bought it.

Yep, I got the same amount!

We have used each once.....DH prefers TurboTax for some reason.

I've always used Turbo Tax, so I can't compare. But this year if you bought Turbo Tax Deluxe, it came with State Turbo Tax and It's Deductable included, so you get all three programs for $40. It's Deductable is wonderful if you've donated items to thrift stores or Goodwill, I've saved many, many times more than the cost of the software in deductions this way!

I've used taxcut for the last couple of years.

This year when I got it (yesterday) it was 19.99 with state included, and a free efile with rebate...so basically it will cost me $4.00 in the end...

I just got TurboTax Deluxe with state for $23.99 (this was at Costco with their coupon). I believe there is a free e-file rebate with it too.

Okay, I don't buy the software. In the past, I've used the online version of TurboTax (up to the point where you print or pay) just to get an idea of what to expect...then I've schlepped myself to H&R Block for them to do the actual preparation. I'm always within a couple bucks of what H&R Block comes up with and end up mad at myself for not just doing the taxes myself.

This year I'm 99.99% determined to just do them myself and save the H&R Block fee.

Maybe I'll run thru the online TaxCut and see if it comes out the same. Haven't really looked at online prices since I never got to that point.
