Has anyone used turbotax this year and had a problem? I hae used it for the past couple of years but, I know there is something wrong this time. My federal return comes out correct but, it looks like my state is completely wrong. I have used the state filing site to try to compare and it is about $1500 difference.
Has anyone ever just used it for the federal and used something else for the state?

We're in the process of using it now.
We're almost done with Federal, and haven't started State yet. Have you contacted Intuit about the discrepancies? Also, which other tax program have you bounced it off of??

We just downloaded our State software from Intuit- we had no problems with them last year.

I'll keep watching to see if anyone else has similar problems like yours.

Good luck!

I hope they are having a problem! I did my federal last night and it seemed WAY off. I went and got the forms from the post office so I can compare.

I used TurboTax for both and it seemed fine. Be sure to update your software in case there were any changes. In NH there were no forms on the original CD - updating the software provided all the corrected information.

Good luck

I'm in Virginia and used Turbo Tax. I didn't have any problems - at least that I'm aware of. Maybe I should look at them again. I've already transmitted!!

I'm not aware of any problems but My dad hasn't done my State yet.

Webmaster Alex started a thread a few weeks back giving some warnings about Turbo Tax, and why not to use it!

The search function is probably down, but if you look manually, you should be able to find it.

We've used Turbo Tax for the last couple of years, and based on a recommendation from someone here, we tried Tax Cut instead. So far so good, except I think Gator (spyware) came with it, and now we are having a helluva time trying to get rid of it!

I also use TaxCut I have heard alot of people complain about TurboTax over the years.

Blondie I dont think the Gatorware came on Taxcut I used it and filed and not had anything pop up. Hope this helps you find the culprit.

Yea, that was great of Alex to post, but it was too late for me by the time he did. I installed in around Jan 1 (I'm always anxious to get my taxes done - I'm an accountant). I'm glad he was able to help others avoid it. Luckily, I haven't had an problems with my computer as some have reported.

You are right Jay, we are assuming Gator came w/Tax Cut, but it might not have.

Tina,

It's genetic in accountants. I was in the same boat with the software already installed before the warning came out. All my data was entered by mid January and I transmitted as soon as the last confirming document arrived. If there is a problem I'm sure the IRS will let us know.

Blondie, I have loaded Tax Cut and I do not know if any spyware was loaded with it. So I am running Ad-Aware right now and I will let you know if anything shows up.

:)

Nope Blondie, no Gator. 4 other little pests, but Ad-Aware took care of them.

I just finished my taxes using Turbo Tax and I didn't have any problems with them. This is my 4th year working with them, and never had a problem to date.

I used turbo-tax this year and had no problems with my computer, but it is as old as the hills. I usually telephone my state taxes in.

I was using the turbotax online. I went ahead and downloaded the taxcut, and the state came out totally different than the turbotax. With TT it showed that I owed the state $12. The taxcut came out with the same exact federal amount, but the state was a refund for me of $1658. Since I normally get between $1500-$1800 back on the state I am glad I doubled checked and switched to the Taxcut. I cleared all my information out of turbotax and redid it just to see and it still shows me owing money. There has to be a problem somewhere.

Each year I use the free TurboTax online version (free until you print or file) in order to get an idea of what my CPA will say (my CPA happens to be my brother so he's free, too LOL).

This year I also happened across a free online version of H&R Block and ran it, too.

I found TurboTax much more user friendly, although the values came out close.

Interestingly, my brother has done his bit and he came out close to both in Fed and exactly the same as my state in TT. Each year, his does come out a little different and normally in my favor.

Uh Oh - it sounds like there is a problem with the Virginia return. I guess I'd better do them by hand and compare. :(
